So anyone familiar with the mid-year financial agreement they've put in place this year?

Essentially recruits in football can sign this agreement and the school is bound to them roughly 6 months before signing day. However, the kid can continue to look around and can decommit.

We've had 4 players already sign it this month. On the surface it seems to really be an advantage to the kid, HOWEVER it comes with one stipulation. Once a kid signs this agreement, the coach of that school can have unlimited access to communicate with the kid.

This applies right now to early enrollees only

I like the new rule. LSU was the 1st to do it a couple weeks ago with a 4 star QB, and now several schools are following suit.

As you said, it's main benefit is to the kid because he guarantees himself a spot at whatever school(s) that he signs financial aid papers with. But from the schools perspective, you basically have no rules to follow anymore. They can publicly mention the recruit, have as much contact as they want, etc. It's really a win-win for both parties involved.

Tennessee has had 5 guys do this so far. 4 commits and 1 undecided. I think it's the first step in what will eventually be an early signing period.

Sorry to rub it in Illinois fans, but are you kidding? Did you really think you would get this guy? Do yourself a favor and assume Illinois will not get a 5-star recruit until they are at least a perennially top 25 program again. Even then, reality check, you probably won't get them very often. The blue chip recruits go to the blue blood schools. It's part of what is ruining college basketball. The same teams win every year with some new superstar, that superstar leaves, but the recruiting remains.

Why would we assume something stupid like that? Have you seen what teams like NC State, Baylor, and SMU have been able to bring in recently? Hell, Weber pulled a 5 star when Illinois wasn't a perennial top 25 team. Get over yourself, dick.

Good old SMU Mustangs. Truly one of the blue bloods.

What did we ever do to get Dee Brown and Deron Williams in the fold?

The Bill Self Method

So you're basically tarnishing the best team in school's history by saying they were all illegally recruited?

As for Deron Williams, he was very possibly heading to Ga Tech if they didn't take Jarrett Jack first.

Lol at ILL fans saying KU "upped" their offer. Well as bossi and Meyer said earlier today, you're basically admitting your staff was willing to pay him too.

Terrible day for Illinois.

Cliff said Lyle is attending KU with him, there were a few ways for them to up their offer.

Whatever I do not agree with 20% of what you stated. Your logic makes no sense in college basketball today.

Holy crap, didn't realize Snider backed out of his committment and ended up with Pitino. Geezus, it might be the worst day in Illini Basketball History. That includes Deon Thomas. I think Groce or whoever the next coach is, flat out needs to hire Robert Smith and get a tunnel going into Chicago. That's the only way this is ever going to work.

Personally, I think losing Snider is a bigger blow to Illinois than Cliff going to Kansas. If Cliff was a one year player, chances are they aren't a final 4 team anyway. Snider is a guy who would have been around a few years, helping them consistently win a lot of games.

I agree with you.............Cliff would of been the cherry on top today.
