Hey, don't hate because Butch found a way to fill needs. You should worry about beating a Top 10 team first, something Urban hasn't done yet.

I also don't know why ESPN keeps showing UT with 37 signees. We signed 32.

Beat a top ten team huh? Great qualifier. He should get fired.

Is this where you start chanting SEC SEC?

There is a Huge correlation between star ratings and NFL draftees. So that is incorrect.

Without seeing the stats Id say that makes sense because highly hyped guys are still generally hyped in college. The real question is there a correlation between star ratings and pro bowlers etc.

I don't think NFL teams draft based on media hype as much as you're implying.

Its not a great class, but its hard to expect much with one BT win in 2 years. Its kind of like chicken and the egg. They have to put up wins this year to have any chance to recruit a 2015 class. Don't win, and TB is gone and recruiting starts again. I cant be shocked or pissed our class isn't great.

But, this class isn't as bad as most think when you factor in James, Ayoola and Lunt. Plus nice little blurb here http://247sports.com/Article/Big-Ten-Signi...it-again-175918

Now you have to win games. Nothing else matters right now. You have enough immediate impact guys and returning players to do so.

I'm not going to pretend like the Illinois class is anything other than 11-12 in the conference, but I think it's interesting that, at least on rivals, Illinois has a comparable or better average star rating to 4 other teams and are marginally behind 2-3 others. It's a bad class. However, I think people are exaggerating the difference between Illinois and, say, Iowa.

Throw in some good transfers/returnees and maybe we can win enough to get somebody in the state of Illinois to care about the state school. Or, maybe we don't, and we get the thrill of yet another disappointing coaching search :)

Eh big time programs like Alabama/LSU are machines. Its not based on media hype, its based on the college coach hype etc. Its why you see certain schools have players over-drafted almost every year.

It takes somebody doing something very right to get a bunch of kids to live in s***holes like Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge. Even crazier that black kids are flocking to those places. When I was working for the news, we reported on a (admittedly small) group of Ole Miss students burning Obama in effigy and chanting the n-word after the 2012 election was decided. How do you gloss over that s***?

Maybe it's $$$

There is also a huge correlation between recruiting class rankings and winning football games. (I'm sure Badger will enjoy the Wisconsin blurb)

IMO its also going to become alot more important moving forward. Previously you could go through your conference slate and perhaps surprise a more talented team in a bowl game and poof, BCS or MNC winner (NC not very often). Now you have 2-3 more games on route to being a champion. Those teams are going to be STACKED with top tier talent and will not be surprised by different schemes or surprise plays since you have probably run them already. AS the playoffs expand you will also need top tier depth which is only achieved by recruiting extremely well.

Nah, he shouldn't get fired. But he should start beating quality opponents before acting like OSU is a championship contender.

This isn't a SEC thing. This an an Ohio St being overrated thing.

HAHA. Yes, if they beat MSU (a top ten team) they "contend" for a championship. Since they didnt, they werent.

This season with 3 top 5 recruiting classes in the bag and a heisman finalist favorite at QB they will once again be touted as a contender. Sorry.

Is Beckman really in a position to take shots against anyone?

Beckman took a shot at rival Northwestern, which picked up four players from Illinois, including three four-star recruits.

"We signed four players out of the 'state of Chicago,' as we call it," Beckman said at a news conference. "That was more than the actual team that is in Chicago."

Not too mention Justin Jackson and Thorson are better than anyone Illinois got. Quality over quantity.

Granted I am an Illini fan that likes to see Northwestern do well, but I don't understand the infatuation Illini fans have with Northwestern and the "Chicago's Big Ten team" mantra. Who cares? It's a lame advertising campaign by a program desperate for any kind of fanbase at all. They can't sell our an 8,000 seat gymnasium for basketball. At their biggest home football game in 2012, the offense had to run a silent count because the opposing fans were so loud. Just ignore them and take care of your own business, and they won't be of any concern at all.

Really sad state of affairs when Illinois is bragging about kind of out-recruiting Northwestern.

Just busting your chops, Rock. I know OSU is going to be pretty good next year.

False, because Illinois is apparently back in the Brunson mix.

I was just messing with Justin because Stevenson is my schools rival.

I'd like to LoL at Illinois for thinking they have a shot but who knows. His recruiting is hush hush. Lots of offers but never heard about preferences.

In my limited internet snooping, it seems his dad basically said his recruiting is wide open, and referenced Illinois as a team that is recruiting him. Not sure why people are getting so excited about it. Okafor and Parker both said the same things but we all know Illinois never was a serious option.

It's only significant because reports earlier said Illinois was completely out of it. So if they are even considered, that's a positive.

Look, we were second for Cliff, among other things, it shows you Groce and Illinois can be in the mix for these guys. Don't act like you know what's going on, none of us do. LOL all you want.

I don't know what's going on and never claim to. However, it seems the Illinois fan base continues to get overly excited about every little piece of news like this and all it does is set them up for disappointment. I've done it, i'm sure you've done it too. Yes, it's nice to be in the conversation, but conversations mean dick. Groce needs to land some of these guys. BTW, it tells you the state of the programs when the Stevenson student section started an Izzo chant during the game.
