Rick Brunson, a former Temple men's basketball star and candidate to be the Owls' next assistant coach, was arrested in suburban Chicago on June 25 after an alleged sexual assault at a fitness center.

According to a Vernon Hills (Ill.) police report, Brunson grabbed an employee of Lifetime Fitness and was charged with attempted criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual abuse, and third-degree aggravated battery.

Brunson, 42, did not immediately return a phone call. Temple had no comment.

According to a source, Brunson was set to be introduced as Temple's next assistant coach sometime in July. His son Jalen is a senior at Stevenson High near Chicago and is ranked by ESPN as the nation's No. 1 point guard recruit.

Jalen Brunson is scheduled to sign with a college in November and lists Temple in his final eight schools.

Brunson, 42, graduated from Temple in 1994 and played a decade of professional basketball. After retiring, he was a college assistant coach at Virginia and Hartford. He also worked on the staffs of the Denver Nuggets, Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Bobcats.

I've heard Rick is quite the jackass.

He's very involved but I've never really seen him do anything out of the ordinary except when arguing with the IHSA in Peoria.

My buddy who worked for the Bulls told me that there were all kinds of stories about how big of a prick the guy was.

He's awesome because he came up to me and said he liked my work. All that matters to me. Ha

Give up on Bragg.

I know Illinois will be in it until the end based on info, but it just seems like one of those heartbreakers for you guys. He's been UK for so long.

I don't think we'll get Bragg either, but you post things like it's fact. If you don't know him personally, where are you getting the information? As we know, recruiting is fluid. And not EVERYONE can go to UK.

No I said it feels that way. Most of the people close to him in Ohio have been saying UK for awhile. It just seems like we've seen this movie before.

No, you said it's "the worst kept secret" and "he's been UK for so long."

That's no "I feel" anything.

Our best hope is that UK decides to pursue others and gets those commitments, Bragg then feels recruited over and doesn't have clear playing time and decides he loves Illinois' pitch of being the man on campus.

Slim chances still, but possible.

Groce gets 'em with the Jesus talk

Gotta hope relationships win out over the flash and promise of those factories. Bragg thinks he's a one and done but most experts don't agree. The question is whether he believes Cal or Self can get him there over his relationship with Groce and staff.

Hasn't worked out for Illinois thus far, just saying.

You really try to temper expectations on recruiting and then Jerry Meyer flips his Crystal Ball on Elijah Thomas to Illinois.

I hate that stupid crystal ball thing. Usually one guy has info and the rest just flip after the most recent visit.

Yeah, but at least there's a point system where guys who make the picks early get more credit than guys that change their prediction after the writing is on the wall. Some of those guys, like Meyer, seem to be pretty good at their jobs.

At some point Groce is going to land some big recruits (he is already recruiting well IMO, but even better in the future). There's no doubt in my mind. In less than 2 years he's been in the "finals" of more 5* guys than I can remember in the last 10 years. He clearly connects with the recruits and their families and once Illinois starts being nationally ranked consistently they'll start rolling in.

I think this year he gets his stud PG in Evans to go with Crosby and Williams. Maybe he grabs Thomas too. That, to me, is a helluva class for a program that hasn't won s*** in 8-9 years. Bragg sounds like a pipe dream, but at least we're being considered.
