I think in general people think Weber as a better in game coach and Matta as a far better recruiter. He has brought in some insane talent through that program.

Even if you ignore the Big Ten classes of both coaches which have been top notch for both of them which is ridiculous since Weber's best years were with players like Deron Williams, Matta has accomplished more in coaching than Weber has in lesser conferences. Weber has 2 conference titles outside of the Big Ten while Matta has 4. He has been the best coach in 3 separate conferences in 9 years of being a head coach, that is damn impressive. Maybe you dont want to give him credit as a coach because you would rather point towards talent, but Matta has coached successfully at every level since he's been a head coach and as an assistant Matta spent six seasons as a full-time assistant coach at three different universities, helping his squads compile a composite 128–58 (.688) record and make six postseason tournament appearances. He was on the bench in five-consecutive conference tournament championship games and won four league tournament championship rings. He was in the NCAA tournament five times as an assistant under four different head coaches and in the postseason National Invitation Tournament once.

He is a legit coach that gets far less credit than he actually deserves. He is also a great recruiter, but his true talent is as an "in game coach."

Nobody is saying Matta is a bad coach, your making it seem like thats the case. Just general consensus when it comes to the two from what I gather is Weber better in game coach and Matta better recruiter.

This. My post had a bit of drunken homerism attached to it, but it wasn't meant to dis Matta. I think Weber is a slightly better X & O coach, but Matta obviously knows what he is doing too. Either way, I would gladly take either of the two as the coach of my college.

Don't worry about it... Rock is about as objective with OSU as Ranger is with the Sox...

Weber made a mid-major relevant and a scary draw in the tournament for a number of years. Matta's best year he had what, 3 NBA players, including Oden? Gimme a break on that point.

Both are awesome coaches, but I do think Weber gets the nod as the X's and O's guy. I look at tough games, like @ Wisconsin, where Weber gets W's.

And Deron Williams was the best player than any of them have had.

And apparently you missed that Matta had relevant seasons at both Butler and Xavier before he came to OSU. 3 consecutive 26 win seasons at Xavier, 2 A10 tournament championships and 2 regular season titles. 3 NCAA appearances including an Elite Eight appearance. Yes, he clearly only wins with NBA players.

Which is as good as nothing. no sanctions makes me happy.

I never felt like there would be any sanctions, but I still can't for the life of me figure out how its a violation in the first place. It's not like Demi Moore handed the recruits $100 or a stack of autographed nude photos to sell.

Well, the Des Moines Register said there has been no decision on any punishment yet, though initially, Iowa was told none of the players involved would be able to play at Iowa.

I read to the contrary on ESPN.

Interesting follow up on the Perrea story

So for FWIW, my station is getting paid to cover their home games. It sounds like I should be up there at least a few times this year when it doesn't conflict with Michigan City games.

Zeller announces at 1PM Thursday and would not be surprised to see him pick any of the three remaining schools. I'll just be glad when its over. Go IU.

I thought he was a tarheel lean? Its that or IU right?

Amir Williams will be in columbus this weekend, hopefully he signs on the dotted line sometime while on his visit.

People have been saying he's IU's to lose for weeks, then recently there been talk about UNC, and as of today, Butler is supposedly a huge player. No one has a clue and no one has any real "sources" because the Zellers are so quiet. His mother has just informed a news channel that he has made a decision and the only people that know are his parents, not even his brothers.

Zeller is a Hoosier. Look for IU to pull in the number one class in the country in 2012. Glad to be relevant again.

I'm happy for IU and all, but I think the fans need to be a LITTLE more realistic. This guy is not a John Wall or Derrick Rose type. And Indiana is still FAR away from the recruiting of Michigan State, Ohio State and Illinois.
