CM Punk cashes in, wins the World Heavyweight Title from Jeff Hardy, goes heel.

Oddest thing about Batista winning is that I read he tore his bicep again and has to have surgery...again.

Wait, goes heel? Where did you get that from.

Because he beat Hardy? I didn't see anything that made him look heel.

And yes, why have Orton lose to Batista? And rather abruptly at that as I remember not paying attention to the match for like 5 seconds and all the sudden it was over.

Oh, well this makes sense as to why the Orton/Batista match ended so out of nowhere..

According to sources, Batista is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday morning for a torn biceps muscle

that he sustained in a match prior to his bout with Randy Orton at "Extreme Rules" last night. The injury was likely the reason the match only lasted just over seven minutes.

Why the company decided to go through with the title change despite the injury is still a question mark, although one would assume the reason will be revealed in the storyline going forward.

Expect an injury angle or something done on RAW tonight to get the title off of Batista, as he'll be undergoing surgery the next morning and be on the shelf as far as being an active in-ring competitor.

Pretty dumb for them to go ahead and have Batista win anyways.. what is funny is when the match first started and Orton went to go out of the cage I thought to myself "Man that would be hilarious if he climbed over and this match was over in like 10 seconds"

Little did I know, it was going to be done 6 minutes later anyways.

Orton probably punts Batista in the head tonight on Raw anyway, to set up Dave's time away and get another title reign in the process.

I've been reading speculation all over the 'net that Punk will go or has gone heel. I think Punk can be a really good snobby, holier-than-thou straight-edge heel if creative plays it right.

It was just the way it came off to me. Fans mostly boo'd him. He played it off arrogantly. I could be wrong, but would like to see him heel. Heard his heel promos in ROH were good.

Does Batista have his own office at Dr. James Andrews building? Seriously. Stop putting the belt on this guy. He can't be trusted with it.

Batista is wound tighter than a drum, he just cannot take the in ring punishment for any sustained period of time

Super Cena again! :snow

For someone who was supposed to be away for a few months filming a movie, he sure has been on TV a lot.

IIRC, the whole bad back angle was supposed to lead him off tv so he could make his bad WWE produced movie

Does not compute.

Thoughts on last night.

4-way was entertaining.

Mysterio/Jericho was possibly match of the night. Well done gentlemen.

Punk/Umaga was decent.

I marked just a little bit for Dreamer winning the ECW title

Santina/Vickie should of stayed on SmackDown, this has no place on a PPV

Batista winning was stupid, especially since he's hurt. Must be nice to be one of HHH's boys.

Cena/Show was horrendous. It was too long & the ending was awful. Since Show's foot was in the rope, shouldn't the hold have been broken???

Ladder match was good, Edge & Hardy have put on better. Of course I marked out when Punk cashed in & won. If they choose to have him become a heel similar to his straight-edge holier than thou gimmick in ROH, this will be great. Regardless, the 3rd Summer of Punk has begun.

This just in: Umaga has been released. Did not see that coming at all.

McMahon in law buries Legacy on his first night back. f***in' figures....

You would think they would wanna freshen things up a bit...

Yup. At least it looks as if they are finally going to do something with DiBiasi and Rhodes, instead of just being lackies.

So is Orton the champ again? It wasn't made clear.

Thought for sure they were gonna do the old WCW angle between Sting and Rude where Sting is taken to hospital after a Rude attack, comes back cuz he would forfeit US title, Rude pins him.

Seems that Batista is still the champion for now, as the ref never reached the count of 10.

I'm sure the belt will be given to Orton unless Tripsy demands a #1 contender vs. the guy who just came back from a long break match.

And it appears from the Smackdown spoilers that

they haven't decided if Punk or Hardy are flipping heel, or even if either of them are. Both of them hit their finishers on each other on the tapings at different points in the show

Last night on ECW they announced a 4-way for the title between Orton, HHH, Show & Cena.

Sidebar, I so didn't plan to read the spoiler but I totally forgot that quoting your post would let me see it...oh well.

There's a rumor that Batista's injury is a work because he failed Wellness.

Nope.

As reported exclusively in the Elite section of PWInsider.com, Batista went into last night's Extreme Rules PPV with what was believed to have been a torn biceps muscle. The injury was a factor in the short length of the Cage Match against Randy Orton where Batista won the WWE championship.

Batista was diagnosed earlier today with a torn tendon in the biceps. The good news there is the injury is no longer believed to be a full fledged muscle tear, which means less time out of the ring.

The tendon tear is believed to have occurred about 3 weeks ago but there's no clear cut moment as to when. A few people I spoke to believe it was simply caused by wear and tear.

As noted in the Elite section yesterday, Batista is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair the tendon tear tomorrow.

There is no word yet on how long he is expected to be out but those within WWE are hopeful it will be minimal, while yesterday they were expecting the worst.

I don't care - believe what you want.

PWInsider:

Dave Batista's official website at www.demon-wrestling.com posted the following update on the former WWE and World champion:

Dave's surgery went well Tuesday to repair his tendon. He's back in Tampa now recovering.

Also, since a few people have asked. Batista did not suffer a torn biceps as WWE is reporting on their website. That was the initial fear, but it turned out to be a torn tendon, not the actual muscle. The WWE storyline, which is being reported on their website, is remaining the torn muscle in order to make Legacy's attack seem more fierce.

Jim Ross' blog:

Batista's Surgery: "Dr. Jim Andrews, as I understand it, in Birmingham, Alabama performed the surgery to repair a major injury to Dave Batista's biceps. The Animal will be out at least 4 months and perhaps closer to 6. Bad break for a good guy but no one has to worry about how hard Batista will work to come back and be 100%. Nor will Dave be "lonely" one has to assume. Perhaps Nurse Slobberknockers will be available. Sponge bath any one??

The Randy Savage DVD is awesome. Lesser seen stuff on there. The old segment from Wrestling Challende and Superstars is awesome. His WWF debut ruled. Simple jobber match but loved it.

The have generic music in place of Dusty Rhodes music though, which is lame.

I'm surprised that the WWE didn't own that.

Mitsuhara Misawa considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time & the founder of Pro Wrestling NOAH died in the ring.

MISAWA PASSES AWAY AFTER BACKDROP IN HIROSHIMA MATCH Print

Mitsuharu Misawa, one of the greatest pro wrestlers of all-time, was declared dead at 10:10 p.m. Saturday night at a hospital in Hiroshima from an apparent heart attack after being being given a back suplex in a tag team title match.

Misawa would have turned 47 on June 18th.

Misawa, the president of Pro Wrestling NOAH, was teaming with Go Shiozaki in a match challenging Bison Smith & Akitoshi Saito for the GHC tag team championship in Hiroshima. Misawa was given the move at about 8:45 p.m. and knocked unconscious. They were about 27 minutes into the match when the referee immediately stopped the match seeing what had happened.

According to eye witness reports, Saito gave Misawa a "routine" back suplex that was described as a "7" in danger on a scale of one-to-ten. He did not get up. It was chaos in the ring as they attempted to revive him using CPR and the crowd was hushed for a while, and began a "Misawa" chant. He turned purple in the ring and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

His heart stopped beating in the ring.

The wrestlers were told on the bus that he had passed away.

While it is being reported that he passed away at the hospital, he may have actually passed away in the ring.

Misawa was the Japanese high school national wrestling champion at 187 pounds in 1980, and was recruited by Giant Baba into All Japan Pro Wrestling. He gained his first taste of stardom in 1984 when he was chosen to be the second Tiger Mask. After unmasking in 1990, he became an even bigger star after a series of singles matches with Jumbo Tsuruta.

He was Japan's biggest pro wrestling star of the 90s, and one could make a strong case for him as the top wrestler of the decade. He was the Wrestler of the Year in 1995, 1997 and 1999.

After the death of Shohei "Giant" Baba, Misawa wrestled a little over one more year for All Japan Pro Wrestling, while working as company president. After consistently butting heads with owner Motoko Baba, the widow of Shohei Baba, he and 90% of the All Japan roster quit the company to form Pro Wrestling NOAH.

The movie "The Wrestler" opened tonight in Japan. Because of the finish of the movie, this has become part of the story in some outlets in Japan.
