I was just getting ready to post I was going to be looking forward to seeing you defend this movie. The first one sucked, but I still might see the second one this weekend.

Maybe you shouldn't expect a masterpiece, but I'm certainly not looking forward to two jar-jar bink characters and crude sexual jokes like a transformers with visible testicles.

Im not going to defend it, people are going to hate it, I accept that. Sometimes movie franchises take a bad turn and recover, I dont think this is the end of the transformers franchise by a long shot, hopefully someone other than Bay gets a shot at it.

If anything, I get to see a bunch of fighting robots, which will be fun. I know the plot and characters are going to suck, I just dont care. The cartoon sucked too, but it was fun because I was 8-12 years old and thats what was cool.

Now this is a review.

Transformers: ROTF has mostly gotten pretty hideous reviews, but that's because people don't understand that this isn't a movie, in the conventional sense. It's an assault on the senses, a barrage of crazy imagery. Imagine that you went back in time to the late 1960s and found Terry Gilliam, fresh from doing his weird low-fi collage/animations for Monty Python. You proceeded to inject Gilliam with so many steroids his penis shrank to the size of a hair follicle, and you smushed a dozen tabs of LSD under his tongue. And then you gave him the GDP of a few sub-Saharan countries. Gilliam might have made a movie not unlike this one.

I just came back from watching it. It wasn't as bad as the reviews led me to believe, but that's not a good thing either. I'm glad I read the reviews first though because I lowered my expectations. You have to go in there expecting to see giant robots beating the holy f*** out of one another. The movie has that in spades, not much else. The plot is pretty meh and doesn't follow Transformers canon very well. The "comic relief" is f***ing brutal, all the attempts at humor fall flat. I'm seriously talking Jar Jar Binks type bad. The writing is f***ing cheesy too and the acting is uneven at best. Reminded me of Batman and Robin. It wasn't the greatest movie by any stretch but it's not a waste of money either.

It was also about 45 minutes too long. Michael Bay seems to have a hard time keeping movies under 30 minutes. If they took out all the gratuitous scenes of Megan Fox running in slow motion to watch her tits bounce or extended shots of her ass (not that I was really complaining about this at the time) it would probably cut that 45 minutes off.

Oh and they used President Obama's real name. I thought that was kind of odd, I never recall any action movie that's done that before.

Did you notice that the dialogue including Obama and other current events was spoken when the actors who were speaking the lines were not on screen?

They dubbed them in later.

All I know is I just witnessed an oscar winning masterpiece in Transformers 2

;)

With the Academy expanding the category to 10 films, maybe.

I mean, objectively speaking, it is not a good movie. It's still worth watching and it has great action sequences, but for the de facto company its budget puts it in competition with, it doesn't measure Saying it is a movie about toy robots in defense of it is a red herring and this argument doesn't hold water with me. Terminator 2 is a movie about time-traveling machines that are planning a war against humans. The Dark Knight is a movie about a guy who fights crime by dressing up as a bat. Batman and Robin was about the same thing and there is literally not a single sane person on this entire planet that will tell you B&R was better than The Dark Knight. Iron Man, which was a surprisingly great movie IMO, is about a guy who makes a suit that lets him fly and beat the s*** out of people. It isn't a lot to ask to expect the second Transformers movie to follow the precedent set by the first and be as good as those movies. It falls way short.

I thought that the original Transformers was equally as cheesy and hectic. I am disappointed that they couldnt clean up the rough edges of the first movie and deliver a superior film. The action scenes were awesome, but yet again there were times I couldnt tell what the heck was going on because of how close he likes to bring the action to the camera. The racist robots and testicle shot didnt bother me, and the humping dogs and robots were dumb, but I am not going to jump and scream about them.

I wonder what someone like Nolan would do with something like the Transformers series.

Just began watching American Wedding for the first time... I forget, but was Stiffler always as big of an annoying dumbass in the previous 2 American Pie movies? I remember him always being an ass, but in the other two, he was at least kind of funny and not so stupid, or at least that's what I recall.

Michael Bay is a talentless hack. The racist robots weren't funny at all, and added nothing to the plot. The movie was ok I guess but I certainly have no desire to ever see it again.

I just got back from Transformers 2. I really liked it. It's transformers. I went to see robots that transform and blow s*** up. I went to be entertained... which I was. I didnt go to see the next "Life is Beautiful" or "Forest Gump". It was Transformers done by Michael Bay. It was good, a little over the top in some parts and the twins largely served no purpose at all other than comic reliefe whouch could have been done in other ways. I liked it. I'll own it on DVD.

It wasn't as bad as I thought, in fact it was better than the first, but that's not saying much.

The racist twins sucked. The fighting scenes were much better but the Decepticons robots weren't recognizable at all. The old man jokes with Skyfire blew. There were too many dumb jokes involving the male crotch. Some of the running sequences at the end seem to be edited wrong. You see the couple running, then get blown away after jumping over a building, then they are right back up and running without another scratch not close to the building they just crashed into. I like Shia was able to get such a nice cast so fast after teleporting. I forgot they had to write his injury into the movie.

I forgot too! After i noticed the cast I thought "oh, that's how they wrote it in, not bad."

I thought it would be kind of lousy since I hadn't heard about it since I saw the trailer, but I saw Nothing but the Truth starring Kate Beckinsale and it was actually quite good. It follows a Valerie Plame-like story. Acting's great, pretty taut stuff.

Rewatched A.I. this weekend. It's a shame Kubric didn't direct it. What it could have been. Still a B minus though.

IIRC they used his complete storyboard to "direct" the movie.

A couple of TF2 screenwriters respond to the "Sambots."

http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/orci...nsformers-2.php

It all revolves around two characters – Skids and Mudflap – who are decidedly moronic side characters that resemble, well, they resemble some pretty awful black stereotypes. One has a gold tooth, they both talk in a crass urban slang, and apparently most people are shocked to the hilt in a scene where both characters appear to be illiterate. CHUD labeled them “Little Black Sambots,” and I think that’s the most succinct, clever way to put it. Especially because the visual look of them is fairly close to the old-school style of subversive stereotypical caricatures of black people made popular back in the 1920s.

I had a chance to speak with screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman about the issue, and they had some surprising things to say. They’ve already claimed in other interviews that the gold tooth and several other elements were Michael Bay’s idea, but when I talked to them, they moved beyond that to claim they were disappointed by the characters.

Cole: I heard that the gold tooth was Michael Bay’s idea, but do you have any response to those who found The Twins offensive?

Orci: Number one, we sympathize. Yes, the gold tooth was not in the script, that’s true.

Kurtzman: It’s really hard for us to sit here and try to justify it.I think that would be very foolish, and if someone wants to be offended by it, it’s their right. We were very surprised when we saw it, too, and it’s a choice that was made. If anything, it just shows you that we don’t control every aspect of the movie.

Cole: Were you offended by them?

Kurtzman: I wasn’t thrilled. I certainly wasn’t thrilled.

Orci: Yeah, same reaction. I’m not easily offended, but when I saw it, I thought, ‘Someone’s gonna write about that.’”

I just got back from Transformers 2 and I was thoroughly entertained. I see people complaining about the

mystery gauze in the desert

and the

racist auto-bots

, I say meh. People are too f***ing uptight in this damn country. I went to get entertained, and it went above and beyond that.

And Megan Fox is f***ing amazing. God damn. And the college chick who

was actually a Decepticon

was awesome too. I wish college was really like that.

I commented to my sister who went with me to the movie, that it was the "prettiest" college ever.

Not one bad looking person there - except Shia - (ha!).

If the Decepticons could hide as humans, why bother trying to hide as large machines? How come one Autobot could "smell" a decepticon yet Bumblebee didn't realize the girl was a decepticon riding inside him? Why didn't the human Decepticon do something to Bumblebee?

Why did Soundwave have to sound like Dr. Claw from inspector gadget?
