BigSqwert
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) I'm trying to remember if Pinto has more than 5 lines in the film. Nothing about her stood out. 'Cute' is a good word to describe her, not hot, not beautiful...just cute. http://www.freidapinto.com/ga9.html I'll have to disagree. She's pretty dang hot. Milkman delivers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 11:08 PM) Yeah, Speed Racer, the sequel to Chronicles of Narnia, even Quantum of Solace (domestically so-so, it has done really well overseas, but it just wasn't as good as Casino Royale not even close), the disastrous Phil. Pullman movie that won't lead to a series, the imfamous Delgo! Australia would be another example, something like a $150 million movie that will struggle to make back half that. Movies like Hancock are even considered disappointments when they make in the hundreds of millions now...so definitely, there's that niche for movies that are either brainless (like all the Jason Statham ones that make tidy profits) or ones that don't require huge budgets like High School Musical or Hannah Montana type productions. It will be interesting to see the fate of Avatar and The Watchmen, along with Monsters versus Aliens, the new 3D/2D theatre experience. What is Monsters versus Aliens? And disastrous Phil, what are you referring to there?

LosMediasBlancas
Most of you won't see it, but 'The Reader' is the best film I've seen this year. It takes you through a lot of emotions without ever being sappy. The trailers and previews don't give away the best parts, which is a good thing. If you have 10 bucks and two hours to play with, see this film. I'd love to hear some feedback.

And disastrous Phil, what are you referring to there? Phillip Pullman's Golden Compass trilogy, it was supposed to be followed up by His Dark Materials, I guess the atheistic crowd/dark appeal isn't quite what it used to be for young children, lol. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0892782/ Monsters vs. Aliens (not to be confused w. Wait, do you think this is like the Star Wars prequels with real people interacting with cartoon characters? I think this is the type of movie that has real backgrounds, but the entire cast and a good portion of the "set" is animated.
LosMediasBlancas
Didn't see this posted anywhere, but Travolta's 16 year old kid died suddenly of a seizure while with his family in the Bahamas. Tragic and weird. Off topic, 'Revolutionary Road' is getting lots of serious praise, but nothing about the trailer makes me want to see it. Has anyone read the book? caulfield12
Nope, just saw a really long reactionary piece in the Wall Street Journal defending the idealized "life in the suburbs" that the author claimed is always under assault by Hollywood. juddling
I just saw 'A Fish Called Wanda' for the first time in at least 10 years. I'm surprised how the comedy in that film has held up over the years. It had me laughing out loud.

Real locations with animated creatures. from IMDB:The backgrounds in the movie are actually superimposed(pictures over pictures, making a scene look more than it is) photos of exotic tropical locations such as Tahiti and Hawaii. Milkman delivers
I just got back from The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. It was definitely a good movie, but also a downer. In my opinion, Rourke is still head and shoulders the leader for best actor.
caulfield12
I'm voting for James Franco from Pineapple Express and Wall-E for best actor, lol. FWIW, EW (Dave Karger) did an Academy Awards prediction article in the last couple of days....I think Clint Eastwood will get a lot of buzz for Gran Torino, too...looks like DiCaprio's chances with Revolutionary Road are going downhill, opening up a place for the kid from Slumdog Millionaire. NorthSideSox72
Just watched First Snow on DVD. Kind of a weird movie. Tried too hard to be artsy, comes off too foamy. Brooding, interesting symbolism, but you're never able to like the lead character (Guy Pearce) enough to care what happens. JK Simmons is his usual excellent character actor self, and Piper Perabo is nice to look at. But overall, a disappointment - 2 stars (of 4). caulfield12
Is that related to Snow Dogs or Eight Below? Just kidding. Actually, the best movie I've seen with Snow in the title might be Snow Falling on Cedars...although I'm probably forgetting one. Snows of Kilimanjaro? Milkman delivers
I also just watched Michael Clayton for the first time. That was a very solid movie. A little boring at times, but I like how it ended. I'm not sure why Tilda Swinton won an Oscar for that movie, as she was in it for all of 15 minutes. Tom Wilkinson really deserved that Oscar. I loved No Country For Old Men, and I believe that Javier Bardem did a hell of a job, but I think Wilkinson bested him.
