Anyone see Stardust yet?

Read the book and just saw the movie...not bad.

I saw it and was pleasantly surprised by the movie. I'm not a Claire Danes fan, but I thought it was a solid flick.

Two films I'm looking forward to this fall:

"Into The Wild' directed by Mr. Sean Penn. :notworthy

"I want someone to eat cheese with". The hot dog stand he's standing ouyside is 1 block from my old home in Chicago.

Is Into the Wild based on the Krakauer book? Interesting. Its a one man show - kind of like Cast Away, except instead of a nice little tropical island, its Alaska. Could be a good acting vehicle.

I liked 'Last Kiss' more and more each time I watched it.

There's not one likeable character in Last Kiss. There were likeable actors, but the characters were pathetic.

It is in fact based on the book.

Superbad was pretty good. Had a couple laugh out loud moments but mostly chuckles. Not really worth the $10. Wait for the rental.

That's what one of my buddies said. He's a comedy freak, watches nothing but, so I am actually taking his advice.

Halloween

A work print of this came out this past weekend. It has a watermark at the top that says 'property of dimension films', but is supposedly good quality.

Not my kind of movie, but some of you on here seem to be diehard fans, so I though you might be interested. From what I read the workprint has some differences from the theater release. Most notably the ending has been completely changed.

I'm looking forward to it - mostly cause the Saw IV trailer is previewing before it.

Lemme know if anyone wants me to make a saw thread and keep the Saw stuff outta here.

I just saw The Wind that Shakes the Barley. It's basically a movie about theBritish-rish war and the Irish Civil War told from a very pro-Irish/Republican stance. The movie tells the story of two brothers, one who is about to leave Ireland to practice medicine (Damien) and the other is the leader of a guerilla troop of Irish Republicans (Teddy). After witnessing the brutal death of a childhood friend, and the general brutalities of the british troops Damien decides to stay and fight. The movie is pretty graphic and can be disturbing (in one scene Teddy's fingernails are ripped out with pliers). But it packs a really heartfelt emotional punch. As the movie draws to a close, the Irish are offered a peace treaty that would give them some independence, but would keep them a part of the British empire. For Teddy and others (oddly) this is good enough. But for Damien, nothing short of full Irish independence and a break-down of the aristocracy will be enough. The brothers are pitted against each other. The movie ended in a way that I was not expecting, and I did shed a few tears. The acting was top notch, but at times the accents were quite difficult to understand, but overall a really great heart-wrenching movie.

Variety ripped the new Halloween. Supposedly Zombie takes all the mystery out of Meyers and turns the film into a blood and guts fest. I understand that Variety just doesn't like Horror, but everything in the review tells me that Zombie just doesn't "get it" when it comes to Halloween. Let him do remakes of the films he was obviously most influenced by, stuff like Last House On The Left and I Spit On Your Grave. I'll see this one on a double bill with the Texas Chainsaw and Psycho remakes. That means "never".

Well lets be honest here...what exactly was the 'mystery' behind Michael Myers? That he was pure evil, from an early age? It never really made any sense to most of us how he was able to survive an exploding fiery building, shot in both eyes, and yet could see just fine from part 4 on.

I'm not necessarily a Zombie fan, but I'll at least give it a chance and not go by what Variety says. Its Rob Zombie, everyone knows its going to be mostly gore and blood.

A studio copy was relased and from what I saw it's not even close to all "blood and gore". Variety hasn't "gotten" horror films in a long time so the review isn't a surprise.

It's a tireless argument people such as myself have made -- why remake this classic films for new generations when there are, literally, thousands of older movies and books which could be adapted into tremendous movies under the right direction?

As a fellow horror fanatic, I just can't stand remaking movies such as Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's not so much that I care about the integrity of these movie more than the laziness it shows from studios. Are Hollywood executives really that empty on ideas that the only way of producing profitable horror movies is digging into the past for the genre's most notable names?

Did you know Suspiria is being remade? Slated for release in 2008? These are exactly the type of films which should be pursued. Give the American public a taste of a movie they're unfamiliar with, while simultaneously shifting attention towards the original version.
