Saw Taken last night and was thoroughly entertained. Yeah most of it was implausible and there were some corny scenes, especially everything leading up to the trip to Paris, but it was fun.

I'm also surprised at PG-13 ratings given to movies like this and Dark Knight. They were both ultra violent and I couldn't help but think what the heck did it need to get an R rating? I guess if they showed a boob it would have gotten the R but having 40 people savagely killed or injured is fine. A sad commentary on society today that violence is so easily accepted.

I thought the same. Fun movie even if there seemed to be plot holes galore.

My predictions for tonight.

One of the things worth mentioning is the Best Actor race where I think Rourke is the favorite to win but I've been saying Penn for a few weeks and if I switch it now and Penn wins I'll be pissed. If Rourke wins I won't be upset at all because I think he'll give a better speech in what otherwise should be a dull show and I also think Penn is on record as actually hoping that Rourke wins.

I went and predicted a Slumdog sweep even in the sound categories where it is not favored to win over The Dark Knight and WALL-E. I also think it may be vulnerable to splitting the vote in Best Song allowing "Down to Earth" to win.

This is not directed at you, just society in general.

Society has taken nothing but a step backwards in that regard. What was once acceptable will slowly but surely find its way to the dumpster rather than on the big screen.

There have been darker and more twisted plots throughout the history of films than the dark knight could ever associate with... with lesser ratings. The actual problem is people have become more defensive and insecure with just 70, 60, 50, even just 40 years ago. With films and literature you are suppose to let your imagination run wild and not take everything to heart. There is no more tobacco on television (they are really trying to get it out of movies entirely also) for the vaaaast majority throughout our nation. Next it will be liqour being shown or consumed, swear words entirely filtered, infidelity, people ditching school (after all it is a no no), drugs in general, aids, rape, etc. These are just a sample of real life problems people go through everyday. Only if the things mentioned above were that simple in real life, fact is movies are actually the lighter side to the ugly truth. The real pieces of s*** and horrid ''ideas'' are accessible to practically everyone. Almost everyone has either a newspaper in their home and/or a television to watch the news. Movies do not compare to 9/11 (and even much, much smaller stories for that matter) and let's say even Katrina. I would say it is safe to say the same people that do not want their children to watch a certain movie based on a rating would have no qualms if they did indeed read the paper or turn on the news.

Gone with the wind which is a bonafide classic won 8 oscars with 13 total nominations. The movie touched on rape, drunkenness, moral dissipation, and adultery. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." Some people just so happen to believe it is one of the very best movie quotes ever. Can you believe they swore in that line? Shame on them. How about the ridiculous fire?

There was no rating scale when this film came out and in 1971 they ''bumped'' it up to ''g''.

Gunner Palace

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424129/

They say phuck 42 times throughout the movie. Those 42 times are the most ever for a pg-13 movie. Doesn't seem right that it should get special treatment due to it being about documentary about war.

I asked the same question regarding movie rating a few weeks ago.

The Alphabet Killer was one of the worst movies I have seen in a while. I'll be honest when I say I am pissed that I wasted $1.07 on it.

LOL, RedBox bags another sucker every minute!

Eliza Dushku is super hot, but good lord she picks some stinkers. Of course, I have yet to see her stray from the moody b**** who acts like a spoiled teenager

Totally. I love the reserving and paying on-line, and not having to wait in line. Plus the $1 a day thing is way cheaper than $4 each at Hollywood.

As for the movie, I want the two hours back. Here's a crazy idea, wait until there is a break in the case to make the damned movie.

I watched it last night too and really enjoyed it. Reminded me a bit of Man on Fire, but with more action (maybe not as good of a story but still badass).

Maybe it's also reminiscent of Bourne because of the European sets...

The irony is that everyone complained that the new James Bond (QOS) was too much like Bourne and not humorous or romantic enough. I tend to agree, because it's hard for this most recent bond to stand up in comparison to Casino Royale. Having Eva Green witty repartee and banter back and forth with Craig (especially the train scene) just added something that Olga Kurylenko, despite her near supermodel status....didn't. Which was enjoyable action AND dialogue and a hint of sex/fun without straying too much from the main storyline from too pretty talented actors.

I think what distinguishes the Bourne movies from say Seagal or National Treasure or DaVinci Code is that they're written for people with some intelligence...that like to think while they're watching a movie, instead of being spoon fed. Watching him stay one step of David Straithairn in the last movie was enjoyable, in and of itself. So maybe Bourne is like a modern-day, intellectualized Rambo/First Blood.

my gf made the comparison to Man on Fire as well, but I thought of it as a early 90's Seagal Movie if he could act his way out of a paper bag.

I can see the Seagal reference as well. Under Siege is clearly one of the most badass movies of all time!!

Lets not compare James Bond and Jason Bourne. The Bourne movies are so much better than the Bonds (at least the recent one's), its not even funny. Better stories, cooler action scenes, etc. I've been flat out dissapointed with each of the most recent Bond movies, although I happen to think the current bond is very good at his role (the movies weren't good though). Or at least not up to my expectations of a Bond flick.

I think Quantum of Solace was very well put together and I'm going to be buying the Blu Ray. I'm not one who minds that the storyline coincides with Casino Royale, nor do I mind that BA chase seen in the beginning of the movie. I'm really one who didn't like GoldenEye though. Heck, I think the only Bonds I could watch are with Daniel Craig.

i enjoyed it, but I think the bond theme with alicia keys and jack white is possibly the worst piece of music ever created.
