longshot7
QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) I said it was good, not Oscar-winning. Besides, when was the last time a screenwriter didn't "gut" a book? You ever see LA Confidential? Also, I saw No Country for Old Men last night. I was VERY disappointed. I won't go into spoilers but the movie was as perfect as a movie can be until this one unforgivable thing happens - and it leaves such a bad taste, it ruins the rest of the movie. I predict that people will go gaga for it anyway - and it will be vastly overrated. Both Javier Bardem & Josh Brolin are terrific though.

Kalapse
Highlight black box to see text: Or you could just use the spoiler feature.
Or you could just use the spoiler feature.
It's a kickass feature but no one uses it. Now as for my guess (even though I have yet to see the movie): DO NOT HIGHLIGHT BOX! MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! I heard Brolin shoots a dog in the movie, could this be the issue? I know Depp killing his dog in "Secret Window" really ruined the movie for me. Just to think of 1 example off the top of my head. DO NOT HIGHLIGHT BOX! MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!

If you're set up the same way I am, there should be an "Insert Special Item" option. Select the Spoiler one and it should work. Or, just ad the tags spoiler and /spoiler around your text. SnB
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 01:06 AM) We watched this tonight: http://www.apple.com/trailers/mgm/larsandt...algirl/trailer/ Ambitious film, but it never really took that turn to make it's point in any big way. I saw that last weekend too. I heard good things and I really like quirky movies, so I thought I would love it. I didn't. I guess, yeah, I was waiting for something that never came. longshot7
Ok, here goes. If this doesn't work, mods, feel free to delete for spoiler reasons. SPOILER - No Country for Old Men Brolin does shoot a dog that's chasing him - that didn't bother me. But as the main character of the film, when he's killed OFF-SCREEN (and not in a non-linear Pulp Fiction kind of way), that in my mind, kills the entire movie and creates a major bad taste in my mouth. The climax that the films builds up to between Brolin & Bardem NEVER HAPPENS. all build up, no pay off. Very Disappointing.

The climax that the films builds up to between Brolin & Bardem NEVER HAPPENS. all build up, no pay off. Very Disappointing. No Country for Old Men SPOILER! The movie isn't about a showdown between Brolin and Chigurh (sp?). It's a showdown for the money. And while not given much screen time, the Mexican's play a roll in this money (or the drugs) too--though it's generally unknown why. The climax the film is driving at is the police officer catching Chigurh and hopefully protecting Brolin's life. That's shown through the scenes when the Sherrif talks to Brolin's wife. The Sherrif also leads on that Brolin is a dead man if he doesn't find his help--and he was right. The film is mostly a showdown between the killer and the sherrif. Brolin just happens to get in the way of this mess--he sold everyone out, himself included, for that money.
The Critic
Went to see American Gangster over the weekend. I enjoyed it quite a lot - Denzel should never play a "good guy" again. He looked so out of place in that fur coat and hat, though, it was funny as hell.

I just got American Gangster on DVD from China and will probably watch it today. I also saw Reign over me recently and I thought it was very good. I thought maybe I could catch it some weeknight while on the road, but I haven't found the time yet.
The Bones
Into the Wild is the best movie I've seen all year. Others that are near the top of my list are American Gangster, 3:10 to Yuma, In the Valley of Elah, Michael Clayton, and Zodiac. I'm going to see No Country for Old Men tonight and I can't wait. Somehow I doubt this, that sort of a role seems to be beneath him at this point. Where did you read this rumor? nevermind, I found it: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=39503 I will believe it when I see it. Rescuing Batman is one thing, that franchise was dead in the water for 8+ years. The Terminator series came out with a movie just a few years back. And it sucked. bad. Oh, believe me, I hope it isn't true either. It'd be one thing if I thought there was a great director at the helm, but, shockingly, I doubt that McG, the guy who made the masterpieces that are the Charlie's Angels movies, can resurrect this franchise either. Plus, what's the point of making another Terminator movie without the Governator?

Plus, what's the point of making another Terminator movie without the Governator? Besides what Balta said, they are trying to resurrect the franchise in a couple different ways. "The Sarah Conner Chronicles" comes out on Fox soon, and I have read a few different things suggesting a direct to DVD graphic cartoon(Like the Ultimate Avengers/Iron Man DVDs), more comic books, etc. The movie makes sense, i just hope it isnt Bale that puts himself out there for this type of movie. Brian
The next Terminator movie takes place after Judgement Day, so it can reasonably be done without Ah-nold. Bring back Furlong!
