SoxFan1
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 30, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) The reviews I read about it made it sound ok? :huh I'm very disappointed, being that Mark Wahlberg is one of my favorite actors.
Felix
QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 30, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) I thought There Will Be Blood was wayy better than No Country For Old Men. I didn't, but I really liked both of them. I think I liked No Country more, although Daniel Day Lewis was fantastic in There Will Be Blood. SleepyWhiteSox
CHICAGO - McGrath Arena and DePaul's Lincoln Park neighborhood recently got a dose of Hollywood as the Michael Mann film "Public Enemies" shot scenes on location in the area. McGrath Arena, home to DePaul's women's basketball and volleyball programs, was used as a staging area for extras while Lincoln Ave. just off the campus saw a week's worth of activity as it was transformed for the 1930's era film starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. Depp plays John Dillinger while Bale is FBI Bureau Chief Melvin Purvis. Dillinger was a bank robber in the 1930's that was caught and killed in an alley next to the Biograph Theater after attending a film there titled "Manhattan Melodrama." The Biograph Theatre sits just off DePaul's Lincoln Park campus north of the Lincoln, Fullerton and Halstead Ave. intersection. Click on the "Photo Album" link above to check out the Lincoln Ave. set and the McGrath Arena staging area for extras. http://www.depaulbluedemons.com/ViewArticl...;ATCLID=1476151

Milkman delivers
I'm surprised there was no thread, or even mention, of Harvey Korman's death. I wasn't too familiar with his work outside of Mel Brooks movies, but I thought he was great in those. RIP Harvey Korman.
G&T
I saw Indy and Iron Man in a double feature last weekend. Indy was absolutely brutal. Like, epically brutal. Iron Man was really entertaining. Meanwhile, I had to see Sex and the City today with the girlfriend. Let's hope I never have to deal with that again.

Flash Tizzle
QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 31, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) http://www.depaulbluedemons.com/ViewArticl...;ATCLID=1476151 I love Michael Mann's movies. If I had to recommend several for anyone unfamiliar with him it'd be: Thief, Manhunter and Heat. All three showcase his trademark cinematography and amazing use of music. I remember reading a biography of his online a few years ago where someone said his movies can have an almost dream-like quality, and I'd say that's an adequate description. Two, Theif and Heat, have what I've always loved about his work -- great dialogue. It just comes off very natural watching it. Hell, even a film he refuses to acknowledge (The Keep) is great to me because of its cinematography and use of Tangerine Dream's atmospheric music. I'm really interested in how he'll approach this movie about Dillenger.

If that's the one I am thinking of, that was a solid movie, but the more recent Red Dragon was better. That aside, I do really like Mann films. Good stuff. Controlled Chaos
QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ May 30, 2008 -> 11:23 PM) Oh and Indiana Jones, yeah they overdid it, doesn't touch any of the first three movies in the series. I mean, aliens? Come on, I thought that was rather lame especially the end. Had there been no alien then it would be different. I thought the ending was rather lame too....I still kinda think it is....but this at least makes me feel a little better. At least the story wasn't pulled out of thin air. http://www.world-mysteries.com/sar_6_1.htm and if you really want to get "out there" http://www.crystalinks.com/crystalskulls.html There is a special on The Discovery Channel regarding the skulls. If I saw the special before seeing the movie...I think the ending may have been a bit more plausible. The weird thing is...you just don't associate sci-fi with Indiana Jones...at least I don't...so when that got thrown in there...it really threw me for a loop. Adventurous fiction of a historical/scientific nature. They were supernatural and religious because those things are the focus of a lot of archaeological studies, but they weren't really "sci-fi." Adventurous fiction of a historical/scientific nature. I guess it depends on your def of SciFi. I have always associated SciFi with things taking place in the future....technology that doesn't exist yet.... or outer space/aliens or robots. That kind of stuff. I never would have considered any of the prior Indy movies Sci Fi.
santo=dorf
Iron Man was f***ing awesome. I couldn't believe that was Jeff Daniels in that movie. The whole sequence with him putting together the suit with the 3-D virtual design really made me appreciate the guys who have to do the special effects. I was dragged to Sex and the City last night, and it was absolutely brutal. I never watched the show, but knew the premise and didn't laugh once. It was so long and even my girlfriend admitted it was anywhere as good as the TV show.

DrunkBomber
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) Just watched American Gangster. I know I'm probably one of the last people to see that movie, but it definitely lived up to my expectations. Once again, Denzel was awesome in his role. The storyline is great but the only problem I had with it was they tried to force too much into not enough time. I know it was really long but there was a lot of stuff that doesnt get explained that could be crucial in the story.
