Today's question is, will Aaron Harang be screwed out of the Cy Young for the second year in a row? Last year, he went 16-11 with a 3.76 ERA for a below .500, missed the postseason Reds team. His led the NL in wins (16), complete games (6), strikeouts (216), and games started (35). Not only was he screwed out of the Cy Young Award, but he became the first pitcher in MLB history to lead his league in wins, k's, and complete games and not get A SINGLE VOTE for Cy Young, not even a 10th place vote.

This year, heading into September with a team 11 games under .500, Harang is 14-3 with a 3.51 ERA. He is 1st in the NL in win/loss percentage, is 2nd in innings, games started, shutouts, and strikeouts, and 3rd in wins. And this is a guy whose had 4 wins blown by his bullpen. If he were to get screwed out of the Cy Young again, that'd be a damn shame.

Why do you care about the Reds so much?

I thought last season it was Zambrano that deserve the CY Young because of the way he handled Cincy's "great offense (when the truth was they were the worst offensive teams on the road and the worst in the month of September?)

Last year Oswalt (2.98 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) or Chris Carpenter (3.09 ERA, 1.07 WHIP) over Brandon Webb (3.10 ERA, 1.13 WHIP.) Harang's 2005 Freddy Garcia-like numbers do not belong in the conversation (3.76 ERA, 1.27 WHIP in the NL) Garcia (3.87 ERA, 1.25 WHIP in the AL.)

Hell, there's two guys on the Padres alone that deserve it more than he does.

Yep, no question. Hell, minus Barrett, Peavy might be 19-1. :D

His road stats:

1.22 ERA

0.90 WHIP

.163 BAA

2 HR allowed

And going into yesterday's game, Chris Young led the majors in ERA, WHIP, and BAA, but Peavy just took his ERA crown away. Chris also has a 1.14 WHIP and .207 BAA on the road, which would be pretty much the best line in the majors if not for Peavy.

Encarnacion Out For Season; Eye Seriously Injured

By Derrick Goold

Cardinals outfielder Juan Encarnacion will miss the remainder of the season with multiple fractures of his left eye socket and a serious injury to his left eye, the team announced Saturday morning. Encarnacion’s long-term prognosis is undetermined as remains in a local hospital receiving care, but the injuries could be classified as career-threatening.

Encarnacion was struck in the eye by a foul ball during the sixth inning of Friday’s victory against the Cincinnati Reds. He was standing in the on-deck circle preparing to pinch hit when a line drive hit him flush in the face. Encarnacion collapsed instantly and stayed on the ground for several minutes, unmoving. Team trainers, manager Tony La Russa and center fielder Jim Edmonds rushed to his side.

The Cardinals right fielder left the field with help from teammates and was taken immediately to a local hospital for exams.

The club’s medical officials announced Saturday morning that Encarnacion’s eye socket was fractured several times and that the eye itself sustained “a serious” injury. A team official said he will meet with a specialist and continue undergoing treatment, though he will not play again this season.

The offical release from the club sets future as “undetermined”.

More on Enc (kinda):

Pujols, Molina and Piniero visited him in the hospital last night...

Albert stayed with Juan until 3 a.m. until Juan told him to go home and get some sleep and get ready to play. "He was in pretty good spirits," Pujols said. "He was making jokes." Pujols wanted to be there to make sure that the staff provided what Juan E needed, Albert was concerned that the language barrier would be a hindrance; just wanted to be able to translate if he had to. Albert visited Juan again today.

* Aaron Miles visited Juan E today... Miles didn't do anything wrong, but on a personal level, he feels bad that his foul ball did the damage.

* Juan E wanted to know if Miles got a hit to start the rally last nite.... (Miles didn't). And Miles said Juan E gave him good-natured teasing about that, but flashed the thumbs up when hearing that the Cardinals won.

2nd Post by Bernie:

I don't know where he's at...

It could be two weeks until surgery is performed; the bruising and the swelling have to go down -- and he's cut up pretty bad....I'm told you can actually make out the outline of the baseball where it hit him.

He's in trouble .... if there's optic nerve damage, which I'm hearing is the case, going to have serious vision problems.

Buchholz with a no-hitter for Boston through 8... I really hope he doesn't get this. If he does get this, all you will hear on ESPN for the next year is how Clay Buccholz is the best pitcher in baseball and should win the cy young award this season.

It'll be sickening, but what can you do? I'd love to have someone comparable to him. His success proves stud pitchers outside the first round can be obtained with proper scouting.

Oddly enough, this is his second major league start; Wilson Alvarez had a no-hitter for his second start as well.

It's a damn shame we could have had him. :bang
