Brewers on the way to losing the 15th straight game in which Capuano has started. Ned Yost does a horrible job of leaving his starters out on the mound way too long when they clearly don't have anything.

Crapuano is awful. I wonder what the odds are that the Cards are only a few games out by weeks end after ripping apart the Brewers and Cubs.

All I can say to the Brewers and Cubs is to beware, because that object with red feathers in the rear-view mirror is closer than it appears, and getting closer by the day. I have a sneaking suspecion those 2 clubs will regret letting the defending champs hang around.

If the Cards had Carpenter they'd have that division locke dup.

Fielder suspended 3 games

Prince Fielder-1B- Brewers Aug. 15 - 2:21 pm et

Prince Fielder has drawn a three-game suspension as a result of Sunday's ejection, SI.com reports.

Fielder unintentionally bumped umpire Wally Bell during the argument. Three games seems a little harsh, but he did need to get at least one or two games. The Brewers could go with Joe Dillon at first base when Fielder eventually serves the suspension. Also, they could be on the lookout for option at the position, probably a Jeff Conine-type player.

After tonight, they will be 3.5 games out.

I can't believe Cubs are on their way to being .5 game out after playing so bad the last two weeks. Huge series this weekend for the Cardinals, as they need to win at least 5 of their remaining 8 games vs the Cubs this year.

Just got home from the Brewers/Cardinals game. Cardinals look really good. Ankiel gives them so much more than a bat. Some energy and moves around in the outfield well.

Starters are coming around as well. Franklin and Izzy in the pen are very good with Russ Springer.

Cards look very good and Pujols hit a bomb to straight away center just below the scoreboard.

Could a below .500 team make the playoffs this year? That fact combined with an 83 win team in the playoffs last year and an 82 win team making it the year before kind of makes me wish MLB went back to two divisions and four playoff teams, although that will never happen. Granted, the 73 Mets made it all the way to the series with 82 wins.

Cubs have to feel FANTASTIC after having Zambrano and Lilly, respectively 1,2 on the SP depth chart, getting rocked at home, and having the Cards breathing down the collective neck of the Cubs.

It's actually quite hilarious. Harang gave up 5 runs in the first game, you gotta figure with Zambrano on the hill that the game becomes an easy victory but no Carlos gives up 6 runs and throws another hissy fit. Then they have arguably their best starter of 2007 going in game 2 against Phil Dumatrait who is pretty f***ing horrible. Dumatrait gets predictably rocked, he and Victor Santos combined for a 4.2 IP, 9 ER performance and they blow it again this time with Lilly giving up 6 and the Wertz/Howry duo allowing 5.

Cardinals only 2 behind the blue losers and 3.5 behind the chokers 90 miles north. The World Champs are going to be back in the playoffs, so be ready. On a side note, I love the Reds. They ALWAYS screw the Cubs over late in the year, especially when they are in a race (SEE: 2004). Get the sweep done tomorrow Cincinnati.

Nationals acquired outfielder Wily Mo Pena and cash from the Red Sox for a player to be named.

The Red Sox are expected to go with Jacoby Ellsbury and then Bobby Kielty as the replacement for Pena, though they could have some interest in Craig Monroe. Pena may not last in Washington, but he's likely to have a 35-homer season in the majors before the end of the decade. He's still just 25 years old. Nook Logan, Ryan Langerhans and Ryan Church will lose at-bats to him. Aug. 17 - 1:38 pm et
