Greg The Bull Luzinski
There seemed to be some hints that Dye could be brought back if Sweeney and Co. are not ready. KW sounds none to pleased with Dye and seems to have half heartedly threw him in front of the bus. DYE'ing to get a new contract
Steve9347
Well, I hope he continues hitting the ball out of the park the next few days and some team decides they have to have him. If he can possibly get back a little of that 06 swagger, he could find himself in quite the payday and also return a nice batch of players. The best thing for Jermaine Dye and the White Sox is if he picks up his game in the next week+ just in time for us to deal him. Re-signing him would be a huge mistake for this club. Controlled Chaos
He may be at his peak of the year right now.
Greg The Bull Luzinski
Stepping away from our collective X boxes for a moment, remember we can get 2 comp picks for Dye. If we are trading him, we have to get something that is going make it worth it for us to give up those 2 picks.
shoota
Dye's hitting markedly worse this year, injured and realizes how unappealing he's going to be as a free agent after this season. He's surprised at his own performance after having a career year just one year ago. Dye's shocked at his own declining play and mortality, and is desperate to sign a contract for career security. Coming off last season's career year, he was fine with KW's public decision to let him test the free agent waters; now during his 2007 decline, he's frustrated and panicking to obtain career security in case his performance doesn't rebound. I understand Dye's thinking, just wish he wasn't brooding publicly. He should keep it light--like his hitting. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) There seemed to be some hints that Dye could be brought back if Sweeney and Co. are not ready. KW sounds none to pleased with Dye and seems to have half heartedly threw him in front of the bus. DYE'ing to get a new contract I fail to see where in that article that KW threw Dye under the bus. He said the whole team is disappointing, and that Dye is included in that. And that is an understatement.
BearSox
hopefully with this little resurgence we can get something good for him... he's texas bound after this year anyway.
fathom
Sounds like the reports of Dye being a cancer in the clubhouse this year are more accurate than we thought.
Greg The Bull Luzinski
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) I fail to see where in that article that KW threw Dye under the bus. He said the whole team is disappointing, and that Dye is included in that. And that is an understatement. ''He's frustrated, and I've got news: We're all a little frustrated around here right now because we're all better than this, and he's better than he's showing this year, too. We're all in this together. ''I know because of where we are there are some guys in there focusing on themselves rather than the team, and that's kind of a by-product of being in the position we're in. That's not totally unexpected, and I've seen it before. Nothing he can say, nothing you guys can write, nothing that can happen -- or I thought until [Monday night's bullpen meltdown] -- is going to surprise me.'' I did qualify my statement by saying he half heartedly threw Dye in front of the bus. When asked about Dye he was grouped in with other performs and then it was said that he is "focusing on himself". NorthSideSox72
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) I did qualify my statement by saying he half heartedly threw Dye in front of the bus. When asked about Dye he was grouped in with other performs and then it was said that he is "focusing on himself". I think he was seriously talking about multiple people, Dye among them. I guess I also tend to agree with KW on this one, so I don't feel so bad for Dye. But he did certainly take a stab there, you are right about that. Yeah, even with the contract situation, this doesn't sound like the kind of behavior we've heard from JD over the past few years does it? From day one this year, Dye was playing selfishly. He's chased so many 3-1 pitches out of the zone this year as he tries to hit homers every plate appearance. He's been the Human Rally Killer this season.
knightni
So... what's the difference between being thrown under and being thrown in front of the bus? Edited July 18, 2007 by knightni
joeynach
Cant we all just agree good riddance to Dye. The only positive of him this year has been that he was only making 6 Mil. I like what Dye did for us, but its time to move on. The white sox need to abandon the sort of lethargic slugger mentality. As much we all love Thome and Konerko they clog the bases and while its ok to have a couple guys like that you need to surround them with speed. The white sox need a new RF (as well as LF and CF) and frankly Dye is simply and ailing and aging outfielder who fits that lethargic slugger mode. Its about the time the sox bring in some big bats that dont clog the bases and have some speed. OF's like Eric Byrnes, Torii Hunter, Carlos Beltran, and even Aaron Rowand. These are the OF the white sox I believe are looking for, Ryan Sweeney also fits this bill. Dont be surprised to see your OF next year or Byrnes, Rowand, and Sweeney with Owens on the bench. So while we all admire what Dye did here its time to move on and I dont think anyone should really be surprised.
fathom
Byrnes and Rowand would cost you about 20 million dollars a year between them. Don't worry though, the grinding will be out of control. And getting rid of Dye for nothing is very dumb, as it's likely his two Type A compensation picks will be much more valuable than what the Rally Killer will get you right now. Greg The Bull Luzinski
Dye has another RBI today. This is as hot as he has been all year. There might not be a better time than now to try and get a good package for him. If nothing good is out there, I am comfortable with 2 comp picks. I can't wait until people around this team realize that Rowand has probably pushed himself either totally or nearly into the $10 mil a year territory by having a career year so far this season. Allsox
I can understand Jermaine's frustration and "panic" of no long term deal. Coming off a career yr, he thought he would get some extra security in the '06-'07 offseason from the Sox but prudently, they didn't offer it. The best situation for him would be a trade to either LA, SD or Mil so if he can get hot and carries a team to the playoffs, he may get some decent offers in the offseason.
