Dick Allen
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:19 PM) is anyone else really hoping we lose every game and get the worst record in baseball? You know, I can understand wanting to see the team win if we got quite a few prospects and were going to play them on the ML roster, cause you'd like to see the prospects develop and win at an ML level, but we only really have 2 position prospects worth a damn up right now, so it doesn't matter. As it stands right now, we really need the no. 1 pick and pray to god that the top player in the draft, probably Pedro Alveras, does not have Boras as their agent. But it looks like those bastard Devil Rays are gonna get the 1st pick again, and if not them it would be San Francisco. Well, here is to hoping we lose most of our games for the rest of the season. No way. I know its about draft position, but until the White Sox hire someone from the outside to handle it, not someone from the White Sox "family", I truely believe anyone they draft real early will either get injured, be a pretty mediocre player, be a total bust or not sign. fathom
Wow, horrible AB for Ryan Braun. The Brewers are allergic to getting clutch hits these days. Edited August 1, 2007 by fathom

Gavin Floyd was the 4th pick in 2001 draft. Screw the draft position. Take that higher signing bonus and use it to sign more and/or better scouts. fathom
Wow, this is unreal. Like I mentioned before, the defense being played against the Brewers has been amazing, and the defense vs the Cubs is pathetic. BearSox
well, hopefully some team picking between 16 and 20 will sign Dye so we can get a mid first round pick plus a sandwich pick.
Dick Allen
I wonder if KW could have got the same deal from Philadelphia for Contreras instead of Garcia. Even if he paid Freddy to do nothing this year, he would have shed Contreras' contract and been done with Freddy after 2007.

It really doesn't matter. Have you seen the Cubs schedule in September? They have it so easy. They will waltz to a division title. The NL may be worse this year than last. At least they'll officially reach first place tonight after the local news is over, so we don't have to get that as the lead story.

He's almost unbeatable without Barrett catching him. I posted some stats in the Diamond catch anything thread. Zambrano and Peavy are unbeatable unless Barrett catches them when they became not so good.

Dick Allen
QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) We must really suck then because we went 4-14 against the NL this year. The Sox do suck. 6 games against the Cubs, 3 against Pittsburgh, 3 against the Marlins, 3 against Houston, 3 against Phil. Houston, Pittsburgh and Florida are awful. The Cubs took 5 out of 6 and Philly lost 2 out of 3 to KC, Det, and Cleve. but swept the Sox.
frankie5angels
I wouldn't sweat the Cubs. Who cares if they win the division and make the playoffs. You know the media is gonna be all over this story the rest of the season. It's a cubs town. We had a chance to turn the tide last year and choked in the 2nd half, while KW sat around and did nothing to help this team in the 2nd half of last year and during the offseason. The Cubs spent the money and it looks like it's gonna payoff for them this year. No matter if they win the whole thing or not, life goes on. To me it's not a big deal anymore. greg775
Moronotti wrote the same column about the Cub today that he wrote about the Sox before the trade deadlne during our title season. Hopefully he'll accuse the Cub of choking all of September as he did the Sox and make it as difficult as he can on the Cub to win a title. I know you don't give a s*** about the Cubs. I don't really either, but they do exist.
Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:27 PM) Gavin Floyd was the 4th pick in 2001 draft. Screw the draft position. Take that higher signing bonus and use it to sign more and/or better scouts. I know how you feel about this, and while there are plenty of examples of first round busts, there is certain talent only available to those with a Top 10 pick -- Joe Mauer, Mark Texiera, BJ Upton, Prince Fielder, Delmon Young, Rickie Weeks, Nick Markakis, Justin Verlander, Ryan Zimmerman, Troy Tulowitzki, Andrew Miller, Tim Lincecum, etc. My position is, you can't draft any of the aforementioned names without having the opportunity. Selecting around 20-25 may ultimately provide a team with some tremendous talent, but the difference between there and a Top 10 is obviously the players you can scout. I guarantee the White Sox didn't believe Jarrod Parker or David Price would be available at #25. Does it really matter whether the team wins 72 (a potential top 10 pick) or 80 (somewhere around 15)? Just having a larger field of players to evaluate and assess is something which could be beneficial to our future. Yes, we may (and probably will) screw it up; but I want the opportunity. WHarris1
The whole Cubs thing stems entirely from if you have Cubs fans friends/coworkers/family that just hound the f*** out of you when they are doing well.
