CanOfCorn
Zook finished 4th in AP coach of the year poll behind the winner, Mark Mangino, Gary Pinkel and June Jones. Um...what? I mean, I can understand Mangino. But Zook had a +7 wins and dealt with some real crap seasons for the last few years to turn this team from 2 wins to 9 wins and a BCS bowl. I don't know, I think Zook should have AT LEAST been 2nd ahead of Pinkel and Jones.
farmteam
I can see Pinkel ahead of Zook, but I don't see Jones ahead of him.
Heads22
I'd go Mangino, Pinkel, Zook, but, hey, I'm a Big 12 homer. No way Mangino doesn't get first, but I give it to Pinkel head to head against the Zooker.

RockRaines
Dammit. There couldn't be too many coaches out there who would suspend two impact players before a national title game for team rules violations. Oh well.

Rex Hudler
Rich Rodriguez has told all current Michigan assistants they will not be retained. Word is some may actually be re-hired, but there is no guarantee. Gotta be a strange time in Ann Arbor. This move has to make recruiting, including the current commits, very dicey. Yet, the old staff, including Coach Carr are still there coaching the team through the Capitol One Bowl. I guess nothing is ever smooth when you hire an outside coach, but this seems a bit off from the norm to me. We shall see if the current commits overreact and start to jump or if his new staff can re-recruit them quickly enough to not lose which seemed to be a pretty strong group. I think you can be reasonably certain that most of those coaches knew that they wouldn't be back. That's life as an assistant.
whitesoxfan101
QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Dec 22, 2007 -> 08:04 AM) I think you can be reasonably certain that most of those coaches knew that they wouldn't be back. That's life as an assistant. Exactly. The only assistant NIU brought back, for example, is WR coach P.J. Fleck, who is an up and coming offensive mind that is only 27 years old, is getting a promotion, and will probably be a head coach someday (plus he was a star player here from 2000-2003). Everybody else is gone, even Mike Sabock, who has coached the defense and done recruiting for 24 years and survived 4 coaching changes here. With a new coach, nobody is really safe. Oh and on a random note, Florida Atlantic beat Memphis 44-27 in the New Orleans Bowl last night. It's really amazing, I think ANYBODY could build a really good program down in Florida. In 2000 they didn't even have a fooball team, they were 1-AA from 2001-2004, and now in their third year in 1-A, they have won a conference and bowl championship to cap a great season. "The program builder", Howard Schnellenberger, has done a great job there though now in his early 70's agewise. Rex Hudler
RB Coach Fred Jackson has been re-hired by Rodriguez. He may or may not coach RB's, however (although it looks like he will). Two other assistants may be re-hired as well. Current rumors have them as Steve Stripling (D-line) and either Scott Loeffler (QB's) or Erik Campbell (WR's). Then again the rumors seem to be changing daily.
