whitesoxfan101
Ok Ozzie fans, want us to stop bashing? Well we will when Ozzie does stuff as brilliant as today. First of all, obviously I think just about everybody here would agree Ozzie's best quality is the way he handles the pen, but today was the best example yet. We're down 6-0 in the 9th, so Seattle isn't too desperate AND has the bottom 3 of their order up, who only had 1 of their 9 hits. Plus, we're heading on the road for 4 games after today and Bobby had a day off yesterday. So to Ozzie, WELL DONE. He gets Bobby in there in a GREAT situation to be successful, and Bobby gets it done, although it wasn't obviously all that easy. Hopefully Tuesday night, Bobby retires the leadoff man in the 9th to break that tie he's in right now for the all time record, and gets a 1-2-3 save to start a rare good series in Oakland. Steve9347
Yes, Ozzie is really good at making sure players are comfortable to go for individual records.
RME JICO
At this point Ozzie shouldn't get any blame or praise for his actions.
whitesoxfan101
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) At this point Ozzie shouldn't get any blame or praise for his actions. This season is KW's fault, but I'm sorry, it's hard to not get pissed at some of his moves earlier this week. Yeah these games mean little, but these moves are things that bother me when you consider we damn well could be right in the middle of the race this time next year. That's all. whitesoxfan101
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) Can you elaborate on this more? I think we'll be good enough to have a shot at making the playoffs next year, thus at this time next year, the games will obviously mean a lot more if I'm right. And a stupid move or two by Ozzie right now means nothing, but if your in a race where a game or two might decide who goes to October like I think we will be in 2008, these silly mistakes could be fatal. That's all.

Yet, you know right now, any decision or move he makes means absolutely nothing. How dumb do you think Ozzie is?

Dumb enough to play Mackowiak in CF time and time again last year when we WERE in a race, a move which cost us a few wins in itself. He's not making these dumb moves because we're out of the race, he did the same s*** last year when we were in a race.
kwolf68
Ozzie isn't doing a great job managing, but this team isn't that good either. It's a matched set. Some of the clods we have on this team are laughable. We won't compete next year, not without some serious upgrades in SEVERAL positions. It couldn't have been our terrible pitching that cost us a playoff appearance. I mean, what kind of manager wins 90 games and expects to win a division with 2 teams that came out of nowhere and played phenomenal baseball. RME JICO
Also, just FYI. Bobby Jenks coming in was not Ozzie's idea. So no props to Ozzie. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said he was surprised when pitching coach Don Cooper called from the bullpen to let him know that Jenks wanted in the lopsided game. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylt=AiU...104&prov=ap

sweatpants
If anyone was listening to the score after the game, they had an interview with Cooper about the whole scenario. He said he thought of the idea of bringing in Jenks in and doing it in front of the home crowd and then called Jenks. And without any hesitatation Jenks gave an enthusiastic yes. When Cooper brought the idea to Ozzie, Ozzie shook his head and said no. Then Coop told Ozzie that you're going to have to call Jenks yourself and tell him that. Ozzie called and Jenks must've persuaded him into putting him in. So no, there should be NO props to Ozzie on that. Looking at your post history, you seem to take shots at ozzie in any thread that seems to be bashing him (without reading the thread first) Your post has NOTHING to do with the 1st post of this thread. 29andPoplar
If anyone was listening to the score after the game, they had an interview with Cooper about the whole scenario. Ozzie called and Jenks must've persuaded him into putting him in. So no, there should be NO props to Ozzie on that. I heard it differently, and read it differently in today's paper. Cooper called down to Jenks and asked him if he wanted an inning, Jenks said yes. Cooper mentioned it to Ozzie and according to Cooper, Ozzie looked at him kind of funny. Cooper then said for Ozzie to call down and ask Jenks himself. Guillen then called down to Jenks and asked if Jenks was sure he wanted to come in, noting to Jenks the intensity level wouldn't be there (non save situation). Jenks assured Guillen it wouldn't be a problem, he wanted to pitch an inning. Guillen then made the decision to bring Jenks in. (key sentence) This is no different than what happens all across baseball on any given day. Pitching coach indicates a guy is wanting to pitch an inning, manager wants to double check directly with the pitcher, pitcher gives the right answer, manager makes the decision. Bottom line, if Guillen didn't want Jenks pitching yesterday, he wouldn't have had Jenks come in the game.
Controlled Chaos
I will say one thing....if Jenks gave up a hit half this board would be screaming for Ozzie's head for putting him in a non save situation. Well at least before finding out it was Coops and Bobby's idea. Then there still would be a select few screaming...I don't care who's idea it was...it's Ozzie's team, it comes down to him...blah blah blah. I am not a big Ozzie defender, in fact, I am pretty critical of him, but I understand most of his decisions can go either way and I can't criticize him for having a different opinion. If a situation comes up and you can say...eh 1/2 the managers would have done the same thing...then how can you can be pissed. Sometiems he is on the correct 1/2 of that and sometimes he isn't. Yesterday he was on the correct half and don't think for a second there wasn't a 1/2 on the other side that would have never brought Bobby in yesterday. I know there were fans out there bithcing about Jenks coming in. I only wish this game was during the week so there were more posters. We would have seen a good percentage throwing their gauntlet out there in the game thread....I got a bad feeling about this, oh I don't like this idea, this is a bad move, what's Ozzie doing etc etc etc...just to proclaim "see I called it!!!" I won't name names, but a certain poster probably would've been one of the first, but after the move works we get a thread like this.
