Jermaine Dye or Aaron Rowand?

Dye and Rowand both will sign at a discount so why not ?

Just curious as to how you know this or why you believe it. Rowand wants to be back, and he's made that very clear, but that doesn't mean he's going to accept $6 mill a year for 3 years to come to Chicago when he can get $10 mill a year over 4 to play elsewhere (or perhaps he would, but then he'd be getting about half of what he could get, which is nice for the Sox but flat out idiotic on Rowand's part). And quite frankly, a discount for Dye could easily mean 3 years, $12 mill per, or 2 years, $13-14 mill per and a team option for the 3rd year, because he could potentially get $14-15 mill on the open market. That's a f***ton of money too.

If they are both willing to sign at a considerable discount...meaning Rowand for 6-8 mill per, depending on years, and Dye at 9-11 mill per...then this question should not be "Dye OR Rowand?", but rather "Dye AND Rowand?"

Well, you said it yourself, Rowand clearly wants to play for the Sox. Therfore, the Sox won't have to pay as much as other teams. I didn't say how much he would take. I don't know. I'm sure he wouldn't accept half of other offers. My guess is that they would have to give 3 or 4 years and atleast $ 8 mil. per. since Byrnes signed for 3/30.

I don't think Rowand is a great player but certainly a good one and certainly big upgrade over what the Sox put out this year. To me, it's a no-brainer. A good solid relativley young and healthy player that wants to play here for a little less than market value. And, the Sox are in dire need of players - especially outfielders. And, he's grindy, too !

As far as Dye goes, I think that you have overestimated his market value. I don't believe anyone will give him $ 15 mil. a year. He has stated publicly that he would give the Sox a discount. Now, due to his age and injury history this is riskier for the Sox. I wouoldn't want to commit to more than 2 years plus an option. He could always DH or play 1B if he can still hit but not run.

Anyway, it's not like the Sox have better options. Right ? Atleast you get experienced quality pros that want to be White Sox. I say go for it.

I don't think there's nearly as much of this going on as you make it seem. If it is there, I'm not seeing it.

I'll definitely agree with you there. There used to be much more than there currently is, but it seems to have faded after '05 and a lot of people here actually seem to dislike him (or at least, the buzz about him from the common fan).

I'd also like the sox to deal Thome to free up money for Rowand whille holding on to Dye. Have Fields DH, Rowand in Cf and Dye in RF.

a lineup close to this is what I would like to see:

Owens LF

Fields DH

Dye RF

Konerko 1b

AJ C

Rowand CF

Crede 3b

Richar 2b

? SS

holy righthanded lineup batman!

For whoever said it, Owens can't be a supersub 4th OF because his arm is way too weak for RF. Dye every day and twice on Sunday because when Big Jim is ready to retire or leaves the Sox, JD slips in as your DH. He can also back-up Konerko at 1B. Rowand in another year or two will be a LF which the team doesn't need as much as a CF. Mostly because he's not going to be fast enough to catch up on the bad reads.

Finally, just because Buehrle said Kenny is going to go after big names doesn't mean he's going to get them. And before you start bashing me for that, any GM can say that...all you have to do is make an offer.

I can't imagine anyone will bash you since the overall thought when those comments hit the press was that it was Kenny's bulls*** way of appeasing Mark.

I think it would be virtually impossible to trade JT. He has a NTC and he'd more than likely not accept a trade to anyone but the Cubs and Tribe.

this weird fascination people have that Fields is going to play LF and Crede be brought back to play 3B is driving me insane. It's just that not one thing has happened to lead me to believe the org. has any intention of bringing back Crede and moving Fields to LF.

They know what they get in Crede if he is healthy. They also love his defense. Plus he would be cheaper than trying to find someone else to replicate those number in the OF if Fields were to stay at 3B and Crede left.

the thing is... Crede did just have Back surgery! I don't care what Boras says, he could be a shell of his former self. And it would be a big risk to spend 4 million on him not knowing if he will even be able to play.

The Sox aren't stupid. They aren't going to just take his word for it... ask Magglio.

He can pass all the physicals in the world, it still doesn't mean he will ever play baseball at a high level ever again or that his back would still be able to hold up over a whole season.
