I'd say Big Z is worth 4mil more per season that Mark. It's a nice deal for both sides (although he could have gotten another year or so on the open market if I were to venture a guess). I'm not so sure. Z is erratic to a fault, both mentally and physically. And unlike Z who requires power to be effective, MB should age better, as his keys are differential speed and control. Plus look at their track records. I'd much rather invest in MB.
spataro51
BIg Z is not worth that kind of money. I say he is worth somewhere of Mb 's contract. Z is a headcase and i think he has some kind of injury because of his pitching the last couple of starts and they way his velocity is. and a 6 year player option for 19 mil NUTS!.......but hey hoepfully this will bite the cubs right in the A##! Somewhere near Mark's contract...? Not even close. Mark dropped trow and reached for his ankles with the Sox deal. He deserved more than he signed for. Gregory Pratt
It makes me feel good to watch hometown heroes stay in their hometown this year. Keep it going, Santana. You are a Twin. Dick Allen
Up until his recent slump, Zambrano was unhittable without Barrett catching him. Jake Peavy was having the same problem. At one point Zambrano's ERA was under 2.00 with a WHIP under 1.00 with anyone else but Barrett catching him and an ERA over 7.00 with Barrett catching him. Peavy had some of the same ridiculous numbers. 5 years and $90 million would be kind of difficult to turn down. Marky Mark
Buehrle's Proud Career: -3.78 ERA -1.26 WHIP -106-74, 228 GS -922/362 K/BB -5 Seasons over 220 IP -One World Series Ring -One No-Hitter Zambrano's Proud Career: -3.37 ERA -1.28 WHIP -78-51, 172 GS -1004/524 K/BB -1 Season over 220IP -8 Pairs of pants soiled while pitching -1-2 Fights with former Cub, Michael Barrett So if we judge them entirely by ERA I guess Zammy's better, but is he that much better which he deserved the contract he got? Mark does eat a ton more innings than Carlos does though because Carlos focuses on the strikeout so much more.

Keep it going, Santana. You are a Twin. Period. Are you seriously a fan of this team? Why in the name of god would you openly hope that a guy who absolutely dominates us game in and game out would stay on his team which happens to be a rival in our division. I hope he and CC find a nice NL team to give them a bucketload of money so he can sail off to the never reaches of the earth. Any destination right now outside of our division sounds great to me. The NL would be a jackpot. This guy pummels our team over and over and you hope he is a twin, thats rich.
Gregory Pratt
I'm a bigger fan of the game of baseball than the White Sox, for one, and I think it's better for the game and its fans if players remain with their teams for a long time. Kind of a feel-good thing, and I didn't really start feeling that way until I heard George Brett talk about that. Besides, players remaining with one team usually means a discount and usually means normalization of baseball economics which have been out of control for quite awhile. If Santana stays in our division, good for him and should-be good for us. I'd rather have our team face the best in baseball than, say, the crap of the game. Even if you consider Mark's hometown discount and assume his true value was $15mil on the open market (itself a debatable point), there's little doubt in my mind that the Mets would have paid Zambozo $19mil. You're absolutely right, though. I wouldn't hand the dude essentially a 6 year deal either.

If Santana stays in our division, the only thing we are good for is 4 to 5 guarenteed losses. Which could balance the sox getting into the playoffs in a year. I am a fan of the sox, and could give a flying crap what is in the best interest of other teams.
Balta1701
QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) So if we judge them entirely by ERA I guess Zammy's better, but is he that much better which he deserved the contract he got? Mark does eat a ton more innings than Carlos does though because Carlos focuses on the strikeout so much more. OF course, if you Judge solely based on ERA, without correcting for the fact that he's pitching in the NL, you're really missing a key factor. On average, a pitcher moving from the NL to the AL sees his ERA go up by just under a run, and the reverse holds true for going from the AL to the NL. Whats going to hurt the team more long term. Facing a guy in your division, who dominates you so much that they keep altering the rotation at times just so he can face you. Or the possiblity of facing him in the playoffs. Lets worry about the playoffs when we get to the playoffs. Lets hope that Omar Minaya has a special twinkle in his eye for him. Gregory Pratt
The White Sox should learn how to hit him better if they're so worried about him. This "guaranteed loss" nonsense drives me mad.

Gregory Pratt
I was being very sarcastic. Santana good. But the answer to, "Oh, we're going to lose four to five games against him, oh!" is "don't lose." I don't look at Santana and say, "God, please, let him leave!11111111111" I say, Work him hard, get him out of the game and do damage against the pen. Figure out how to not get shutout by him every time you face him. I know Santana good, but our offensive approach against him doesn't help us out much, either.
