BigEdWalsh
Jim, drafted out of Duke as a center fielder, has played left field for Great Falls. He's put up very solid numbers, batting mostly in the cleanup spot. For the year, in 49 games, Jim is batting .332 with 18 doubles, 7 homers and 35 rbi. He has yet to commit an error. He'll turn 22 on Sept. 3rd.
BearSox
I'm becoming a fan of Gallagher's. With Gartrell getting promoted to W-S, perhaps Gallagher is in line for a promotion to Kanny...
NorthSideSox72
Any relation to another former White Sox outfield product who came up in the 80's? Dave Gallagher?
BigEdWalsh
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) Any relation to another former White Sox outfield product who came up in the 80's? Dave Gallagher? Nope. Not unless it's distant.
BigEdWalsh
Jim Gallagher continues to tear it up at Great Falls. Now batting .335 with a .421 OBP. He's walked 31 times and has just 33 Ks in 224 ABs. Also, he remains error-free in the outfield. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=518706
BigEdWalsh
Gallagher was tabbed by Baseball America as the Best Pure Hitter in the White Sox 2007 draft class. Last year in Great Falls short season, Jim hit .332 with a .418 OBP. This year at Kannapolis, Gallagher struggled at the start, but has slowly improved, until of late when he has been downright red hot. In his last 12 games, he's batted .382. In April he hit .195. In May, .234. So far in June, .429.

BigEdWalsh
Jim batted .253 in June after a miserable May (.221). He rode a pretty hot bat into July batting .324 in his last 10 games. Jim's batted .292 at home for the Dash but only .231 on the road. Overall he's hitting .263 with 15 doubles, 1 triple and 8 homers. With runners on base he hits .290; runners in scoring position .338; but with the bases empty just .238. Originally an outfielder he's playing first base these days. Balta1701
Gallagher is playing 1b for the Barons this year. Off to a slow start, hitting .231 currently.
OilCan
I posed this question in the 5/6 minor league thread. Seems that Jim continues to hit at every level. To our minor league experts, does anyone see him as a possible utility player for the Sox?
BigEdWalsh
After hitting .294 at Birmingham in 2010, Jim was promoted to Charlotte in 2011 but there his average dipped to .246. This year, again in Charlotte, he's struggling, .206. He's been in the organization since drafted out of Duke in 2007.
BigEdWalsh
Jim finished this season with a career low .225 avg. Even his .304 OBP was a career low, as was his 1 HR. It should be noted, that during a brief demotion to Birmingham (11 games), he hit .295 with a homer. All in all though, a season he'd probably like to have over again. BigEdWalsh
I guess the mlb all-star break is a good time to update my AAP. While Gallagher can't really be called a prospect any more, he is still in the minor league system (and has been since 2007) and he's still my AAP. I saw Gallagher play a few games with Great Falls in 2007 and thought he was pretty impressive, so made him my AAP. He came out of Duke and tore up Pioneer Lg. pitching (.332, .418 OBP). Gallagher has posted a .271 career minor league BA, which is solid. Primarily a right-fielder these days, he also plays LF, CF and 1B. This year at Charlotte, Jim is batting .264 in 69 games with a .345 OBP. He began this season hitting around .300 through May but has slumped pretty badly through June and so far in July.
