CWSGuy406
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) Exposed as what? I never thought they were anything special, but the way they're hitting homer and the relief pitching they're getting, they're not going to be an easy out come the playoffs. Funny how you don't mention how "good" their starting pitching has been the last month.
fathom
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Funny how you don't mention how "good" their starting pitching has been the last month. Because their starting pitching really doesn't even matter much when Piniella isn't afraid to go to the bullpen in the 3rd inning. Lilly's been good recently, and as much as I'd like to see Zambrano continue to struggle, I never count on him doing bad. I'm definitely on the Phillies bandwagon in terms of them winning the WC. fathom
It's really amazing how much has gone wrong for Milwaukee. The Braves have played sensational defense this entire series. The Brewers would have had a big inning going in the first inning, but Weeks doesn't even try to get out of the way of a batted ball, and it hits him instead of being 1st and 3rd, no outs. On the bright side, Estrada just got hurt (about 2 months too late).
fathom
Is Scott Linebrink hurt? Brewers are on the verge of another one of their typical 3 run leads that turn into a loss.
fathom
Way to leave Vargas in, you stupid piece of f***ing crap. He's probably the worst pitcher on the roster, yet he left him in to die. Someone really needs to punch Yost in the face.

I couldn't imagine how much Brewers fans despise him. I can't believe they traded 3 of the better pitching prospects for Scott Linebrink, and then let their season rest on guys like Vargas, Ray King, McClung, etc. If he's injured, then that would be one thing. I haven't seen anything stating that he is. The Cubs are going to be able to line up their rotation now by resting their starters during the last season of the series. The Brewers should have made the Pirates apologize for not playing Jack Wilson this wknd! Edited September 23, 2007 by fathom
fathom
21 straight games that Capuano has pitched in that the Brewers have lost. Maybe we'll get lucky and the Braves make a huge run and win the WC.
WhiteSoxfan1986
Well, I have finally come to accept that the race is over. Let's just hope the Cubs are the 05 Padres, 84 Royals and not the 06 Cards, 87 Twins.
santo=dorf
Seeing the Cub fans do the Tomahawk chop reminded me of 2003 when they were mocking the Braves in round 1. The nimrods continued to do the chop in the NLCS against the Marlins.
Gregory Pratt
There was this sad, lonely looking man at the last Sox game I went to against the Angels in the lower bowl who was being hit on by this woman in front of him. She was being friendly and chatty and making a little contact and he was keeping score and screaming all game long. She seemed into him, though, until the Wave went around and he went absolutely bats***. "YOU SHOULD ALL BE f***ING KILLED FOR DOING THE WAVE!" I thought it was funny but he kept screaming everytime it went around and eventually, it became a little sad how angry he was. And then I started to get angry because, I believe, we had a one-run deficit at the time and were trying to contain the Angels in the eighth and I swear to God, the "Wave" went around for fifteen minutes. And not a small wave. Everybody doing the wave. So I started to understand him a little more but he seemed to scare the woman in front of him so I said to the dude in front of me, "He just blew his chance to get laid!" Greg The Bull Luzinski
I suspect most of Wisconsin has already given up on the Brewers and was watching the Packers today. So since an entire state has forgotten about the time, I think it is time we did too and closed this God foresaken thread.
Friend of Nordhagen
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 03:20 PM) I suspect most of Wisconsin has already given up on the Brewers and was watching the Packers today. So since an entire state has forgotten about the time, I think it is time we did too and closed this God foresaken thread. Agree with the sentiment to bury this thread -- right next to the Brewers 2007 season. Thought the Brew Crew could have done some damage if they'd actually gotten home only a couple games behind; truth is, their starting pitching the past couple of weeks has been outstanding, but Sheets's injury (again), their awful bullpen, playing an actual major league team (unlike the Cubs), and some truly weird managing by Ned Yost killed them this weekend. (By the way, Saturday's game should be filed in the Strangest Management of a Game Hall of Fame: for the life of me, I cannot quite understand how Ryan Braun can ever come out of a game where the Brewers don't have a lead; that -- and the Craig Counsell "I must bunt at all costs" effort -- and allowing Damien Miller to remove the bat from his shoulder on a 3-1 pitch with the bases loaded were all, well, strange moves. Kudos to Ned. Did you hear that, Ned? Kudos, my odd-looking friend!)
CWSGuy406
QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 09:39 PM) and some truly weird managing by Ned Yost killed them this weekend. Just this weekend? I'll try to sum it up the same way an avid Brewers' fan did over at BTF: The Brewers had an MVP candidate (Fielder), a ROTY shoe-in (Braun), another ROTY contender (Gallardo), one of the better closers in baseball this season, a team that's going to finish the season with 225 homers, and they STILL found a way to lose the worst division in baseball. Ned Yost's decision-making has been absolutely exposed, and it sickens me (when I glance at the Journal Sentinel) to see people defend him. He's brutal and makes some moves that are worse than ANYTHING Guillen has ever done. If there's solace to be had, it's that none of the young Brewers took any significant injuries and look absolutely scary going forward. Everyone knows about their offense -- all they really need is a better catcher and they'll be set -- but their pitching also should improve. Sheets/Gallardo/Villanueva should all be given rotation spots to start the season. Manny Parra is just about ready, and guys like Bush and Suppan make perfectly acceptable fifth starters. Even with the Cubs taking the division this year, the Brewers are the class of that division going forward. fathom
I feel like this is the end of this thread, so just wanted to apologize for any bad language or any inappropriate comments that were made. As much as the Brewers have disappointed us, it was a lot of fun getting to watch them more closely this year. Seeing the unbelievable talents of Fielder and Braun were quite a treat. Hopefully they make some good changes this offseason, and they'll be back next year. Thanks Greg the Bull and WHarris, as well as CWS and Santo for your contributions to this thread. Brian
I'm with fathom. Next year with this line up, and hopefully a healthy Sheets, an experienced Gallardo, and a better Capuano, they can be back near the top.

But the same can be said for a team with a $100 million payroll, 3 All-Star position players, a $4 million manager, a $91 million starting pitcher, a $55 million starting pitcher (Lilly), the league's best relief pitcher (Marmol), and the league's best deluxe utility player (DeRosa) -- until this weekend, that team was exactly 1 game up on the Brewers. And they call Piniella a genius . . .
3 BeWareTheNewSox 5
I might be the only one but I still have some faith, I'm surprisingly comfortable in this last week of the season. The Cubs haven't beat the Marlins, in what, 2 years? Swept them this year already, and at least once last year. Meanwhile St. Louis should be a cakewalk for Mil, I can see this back in .5 GB after 3 games. Then it gets tough with SD, but the Cubs are never great in Cincy, especially when it's a must win, and you never know with San Diego, they just got swept by Col. Not easy, but you never know, especially with baseball and the north side team, so get your lame ass 'believe' slogans out and let's do this! Mil needs a new manager though, some of those moves in Hou were horrendous

WhiteSoxfan1986
Funny stuff on the brewers board Ticket office: Hello Brewers ticket office, how may I direct your call? Me: Yeah, I'm interested in a 2008 season ticket package, and I'd like to talk to a sales represenstative. Ticket office/sales rep: That's what I do, I'm Nathan, how can I can help you? ME: Well, I usually buy tickets on the go but I'm ready to commit to a minimum 20 game pack on the field level for next year. But I have one odd stipulation. Sales rep Nathan: Allright, go ahead. Me: I will sign up immediately, and excitedly, the moment I hear Ned Yost has been relieved of the managerial duities. I'll give you all my information and the second that happens you can call me up and I'll cut the check on the spot. (figuratively of course as I'd just give my credit card info) Sales rep Nathan: Well, I'm sorry to hear it's under those conditions but I'll get all your information.
