Sox rotation in September

I would love to see Contreras get shipped back to the pen and have guys like Masset, Broadway, Gio, maybe Egbert make some starts, like an extra spring training, except under the lights in the big show, see what we have. Do you think Kenzie will do this?

Seems obvious to me at this stage of the game, but then again, Erstad is still getting regular playing time

Bring up the young guys from Charlotte and give them some major league experience.

Or just skip those guys and head down to Birmingham and call up at least two pitchers that come to mind.

Wouldn't mind giving Broadway a look (and SIsco if he gets his walks down), but the rest of the rotation at Charlotte is laughable.

There's more to it.

If you look at the White Sox 40 man roster, some of the pitchers you name are on it. Those are the guys with a chance to be called up in September. Masset and Sisco.

The other guys you name like Broadway and Gonzalez and Egbert. If they don't have to be placed on the 40 man, therefore starting their arbitration eligibility and service time clock, they won't be. If they'd have to be placed on the 40 man after the season anyways (because otherwise they'd be exposed to the Rule 5 draft in Dec.) then the White Sox might purchase their contracts and you'd see them in September. I don't believe any of these three are in that situation.

This is why Boras always tries to get a major league deal for his clients coming out of the draft. That means the player is guaranteed to be placed at a minimum on the 40 man roster in X period of time, usually within a year. That starts a players service time, arbitration clock, and accomplishes what Boras wants, which is getting his clients to free agency as fast as possible.

As for 9/1 or shortly thereafter promotions, I can see them adding the guys you've seen before like Sisco Masset and Aardsma. Maybe they will purchase this Jason Bourgeois' contract and add him if they like him enough.

Heath Phillips has zero chance of being a Sept call up this year. He has many guys who are ahead of him. I think we see Massett, Sisco, and Egbert up here, and that is about it. I do not think we will see Gio, because they will not put him on the major league roster before they have to do so.

We might, but I don't know if they will call up that many pitchers. We have seen enough of Haegar this year to know starting isn't going to be his thing.

Well, it would be kinda pointless not to call him up as charlotte's season will be over come september anyway. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see Phillips and even Reynoso get called up. Either additioning some of them for trades or possibly for the bullpen/rotation next season.

The point is also having enough innings to go around so that you can get a reading on some guys for 2008. If you call up too many guys, they won't get used often enough to see how they play in a major league situation.

Vazquez, Buehrle, Garland, Danks, Jenks, etc. will not get a whole lot of innings come september. Smartest thing to do would be to shut down/limit the main guys for next season and hopefully get them and their arms at full strength come next season. There would be plenty to go around for Egbert, Massett, Sisco, etc.
