Can't say I'm very surprised.

-It's very clear that Williams and Co. want to compete in the next two years. You don't make this move if you don't think thats the case.

-Sweeney has been a big disappointment this season(at least for me), and the in house options for the Sox aren't very sexy, OF wise.

- Thome is not 100% to come back next season. That would put Dye at DH, which brings us back to square one with the OF situation, but just gives them another option.

Agree, one thing I would say though is Thome will be back in '08 but they'll get him some help, i.e. someone who can spell him.

Have to admit, Dye's power is still there. The money kinda-sorta scares me, with Thome still on the books. We have a s***ton wrapped up in a handful of players. If we don't keep some money to use on a real bullpen, we're back at square one.

Your 2008 White Sox:

MB

Count

Garland

MacDougal

Thornton

Vazquez

Hall

AJ

Konerko

Ozuna

Thome

Dye

Those players salaries equal: $96.625 Million (not counting the money coming in from Philly).

Add 9 Arb players:

Richar

Bukvich

Floyd

Danks

Jenks

Logan

Fields

Gonzalez

Owens

and you are over $101 million with a couple of Team Options and Arbitrations left (BO/TO: Uribe, Erstad; Arb: Cintron, Podsednik, and Crede).

Clearly something has to give this offseason. Either a pitcher is traded or someone else is moved. Otherwise there will be no big splash in Free Agency.

This is a great signing. The guy still produces (we've seen him raking since the all star break). However, I would like to see the Sox move him to left field. I'm still curious how the hell they are going to find a way to build a competitive team without finding some good young talent that can step in (because financially I just don't know how they are going to do it since the payroll is pretty high right now).

Still, really glad to have Dye inked because it means the offense should be decent next year (despite its woes this year....add Crede, stick with Fields, than you have Dye/Paulie/Thome and thats not bad). Of course I'd still move Thome for your young talent but thats just me.

Thome will be a White Sox in 2008, book it!

(Especially since the Phillies are paying for majority of his salary)

Majority of his salary? Try only $4 million out of his $14. Even after Philly's cash, the Sox still pay $10 for him.

By the way, I still say that the Sox could also go with Fields/Dye in the corners and just sign someone like Willie Harris (which I think would be a smart move as he could be your top of the order guy, steal bases, and play a semi-decent d in center, plus he won't cost near as much as Rowand).

You move Uribe and a prospect or two and find a shortstop (maybe Khalil Greene) than maybe move a pitcher to free up some payroll and get some other young prospects or whatever it may be (Mainly because I think at one point or another at least one starter is going to have to get moved for financial reasons more than anything else).

Would you guys mind a lineup of:

Harris - CF

Greene - SS

Thome - DH (I'd trade him but I still don't think it would happen)

Konerko - 1B

Dye - RF

AJP - C

Fields - LF

Crede - 3B

Richar - 2B

I like this move. Especially since Thome is aging quickly we will need a DH in 2009 once he retires Dye will fit the bill nicely. For now he is still playing solid defense.. . This still leaves LF and CF a big ? But this is better than having all 3 OF spots question marks. I do NOT want Fields in LF next year. I want either Owens out there or I hope KW makes a trade to aqcuire a guy like Chone Figgins. Fields should be at 3B or Crede should.

KW's 2008 Plans:

#1 re-sign Buerhle

#2 re-sign Dye

#3 get somebody to take at least half of Contreras rediculous contract....... Hopefully Milwaukee gets desperate and tries to swing a deal with us.

Unless Petco has absolutely killed Greene, I don't his .276 OBP anywhere near the top of the order....

I could see that, but I seriously think Khalil is the type of guy whose numbers drastically improve as soon as he gets out of Petco.

Why would the native Georgian leave the Braves?

If you were an average at best player with a few organizations and then all of the sudden you had a great year with the Angels, why would you want to go back to one of your previous teams further away in which you did not succeed in?
