SoxFan1
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 14, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) F that, I wish school was still going on. There is a difference between wishing school was still going on compared to wishing to still be AT school. I definitely would prefer the latter. Felix
Being at college over the summer is awesome. I don't get why people go home, it's so much better on campus. Uhm, I go home because there's an assload of things more to do back home and the people back home actually do things. I guess it depends on what area you are in but I wouldn't want to be in the poverty-ridden town of Charleston, IL. My favorite source of entertainment is the card store and that's 10 miles away. Not to mention I don't have a car, so that sucks too. Anyway, things couldn't be better here at home.
Brian
If I could do over, I would of stayed in CDale over the summer. I went home and worked. I could of done that at school and knocked two classes out of the way. One of my buddies stayed on campus for the summer and loved it.

Agreed. my first legal summer I stayed in Champaign instead of going home to Chicago and it was one of by best summers ever. I worked two jobs, drank like a fish, played a lot of music, saw a lot of music, and only had to make one trip to the ER for stitches. Great summer. I needed a break from classes, so I kept my regular job working at a gyro joint and also took a job at record store that was just opening up. I was in heaven with all the promo music and store discounts. Zorba's, the gyro place, was right next door to Mabels back when it booked music that didn't suck, right across the street from place with good cheeseburgers and well cared-for pints of Guinness, and down the street from a great burrito place and a cool pool hall. And all of that was just a stumble away from my apartment, so all was good.

Unfortunately I only spent one summer at Marquette, but that was the most fun I've ever had in my life. Really doesn't matter where you are though. Friends, booze, and....booze. Awesome. I'm not talking about drinking right now. @ Felix: I work when I want to in a much better town than Charleston, IL and I have much more fun with the friends I have here. But hey, that's perfectly fine and it's great you have people you enjoy "doing your thing with" at your college. @ FlaSoxxJim: That sounds nice just working at a music store and eating and stuff, minus the drinking part of that and I'd be set. The thread is about people being drunk. Stupid stories and what not. Everyone here is painfully aware of your stance on drinking. So when people in this thread are talking about staying at school or going home for the summer, Im sure the bulk of that has to do with the social aspect, mainly drinking. Then you chime in and say something like, um I go home because theres ass loads of things to do at home. Now for you, drinking isnt something youre going to be doing and most college kids would prefer the freedom of being on their own at that age so they can party over the summer and this was just another instance of you trying to compare something you do that isnt drinking to what other people are doing. Which would be fine in any other thread, but not this one.

I did basically what FlaJim said - worked 2 or 3 jobs to save money for the year, went out with friends and blew it all on booze and food. Good stuff. Well, except for the summer of '93 - the hundred year flood. That summer sucked.

It was all part of a very fun summer. The record store manager used to work at the Greek joint, and we knew all the managers of the bars and hung out at after hours parties with the local bands and whatnot. Would have been a great summer no mater what, but for me it was that much more enjoyable if I had a beer in my hand and a few in the tank. Now that I think about it, I was stoned out of my gourd quite a bit that summer too, and that certainly didn't hurt either. Nothing that a few stitches couldn't fix anyway. I know water was up to some scoreboards in Hilton at one point, and the South Skunk just took over central Ames.
