3E8
Only 1 earned for Egbert. Eggy is top 5 for ALL of professional baseball in fielding independent pitching, trailing only such names as Beckett and Peavy.
BearSox
I really think we will see Eggy skip Charlotte and make his major league debut in September and make the rotation next year.
BigEdWalsh
QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) Only 1 earned for Egbert. Ooops, sorry.
Rex Hudler
Egbert looked pretty good last night in less than ideal conditions. There was a threat of storms the whole night and a light rain often, making the field slick. Egbert was throwing 90-91 (scoreboard showed 88) and kept the ball down in the zone. On defense Mobile was their own worst enemy. The 7-run 7th inning began with three straight errors only to be followed by a misjudged fly ball that landed in front of the LF as he ran toward the wall thinking it was over his head. I swear I heard circus music playing. Birmingham did not have anyone in the lineup I could see playing in the Majors. Chris Getz might be the type that looks better when you watch him everyday, but I just didn't see it.
Heads22
Rex, what do you think about Egbert? Have you seen many of his starts?
Rex Hudler
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) Rex, what do you think about Egbert? Have you seen many of his starts? Heads, I haven't been around much this year, so I can't say I have seen him much. I did see him in a start last year as well and liked him a lot then. For some reason I was thinking he was bigger than he looked last night, but I'm probably just confused. I like him, but I wasn't sitting anywhere near behind the plate, so I wasn't getting a great look at him last night. I just know he went at the hitters and kept the ball down for the most part. Sorry for the weak report, but I was on a date last night and it was rainy, so scouting wasn't first and foremost on my mind. I'd like to try and see Gio on Monday, but not sure I'll be able to make that happen.

3E8
www.firstinning.com Go to the 'League Leaders' tab, then click on pitchers and sort by FIP. Their interface makes it really simple to search through all leagues in the minors in any statistical category. Just for kicks, I searched through the AL/NL too. And it looks like I made a mistake, Egbert is actually slightly ahead of Beckett and 4th in FIP for all of pro ball.
