daa84
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) It just seems like Richar would ground out 400 times in a season if he got 600 at-bats. He's fast, but not fast enouh where he's going to beat out enough infield choppers to get a batting average like Juan Pierre, etc. Basically, I'm sick of slap hitters, and want legitimate big league hitters that can get more than 20 extra base hits in a season. the lack of extra base hits is one of this teams biggest flaws....we are last in doubles...and the difference between the #20 team (houston) and the #29 team (St. Louis), 19, is less than the difference between st. louis and us at #30, 20......we are also second to last in triples....6th in HR though....but still the 2bs adn 3bs are stats not often talked about that are significant that helps to explain a good deal of our offensive ineptitude
fathom
That's the Jim Thome late inning unclutchness that the Jim Thome sucks in the 9th inning and on fan club was based on.

Dick Allen
QUOTE(max power @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) The dreaded lead off walk. Has josh really been that bad in LF? No, I haven't been watching lately. I haven't been watching although I was at the game he dropped one. Its a good time for him to be out there. If he can't hack it, you'll be able to tell when the season is over. No big deal. I still think 2B could be a good place for him. He could be Jeff Kent-like. Dick Allen
QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) And you were optimistic about Anderson? Do you remember his line through 85 ABs? Yes, but Anderson had quite a few less minor league ABs than Richar.

I love it when people s*** a player to death because they arent hitting after only 85 ABs. Thank god this wasnt around when Ventura was out there fumbling with the stick when he came up. You would of wanted him gone as well.
3E8
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) Yes, but Anderson had quite a few less minor league ABs than Richar. Did you really have that in mind when you said you didn't understand why people thought Anderson was crap and then a few posts later go on to say you don't like Richar even though he's putting up better (yet still bad) numbers through equal ABs? Guys who play at the collegiate level on average make it to the show with much fewer minor league ABs than guys who don't. Anderson/Richar were/are the same age as rookies. Yeah, but Anderson has to get used to wood bats and his minor league seasons were cut short due to injury. Richar still had more AB even if you throw in BA's college numbers. I haven't ripped Richar BTW, I just said I wasn't high on him and and frankly shocked by all the love a guy with his numbers gets. That's all. Not to mention Richar was what 16 when he started? It's not like he was in college. He actually had to learn to play the game year by year as a youngster. Two years? Less? Seriously, I have no idea.

Take a peek at our minor league system and tell me that those making the pick are not clueless.
Vance Law
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Fields in LF has been a headache (I really don't get why everyone thinks it's such a good idea. Stupid if you ask me). Enough with the superlatives and exaggerations. Not EVERYONE thinks it's SUCH a good idea. Why is it an idea? Because we have 2 third basemen under our control for next year for relatively cheap. Crede has very little trade value coming off his back injury such that his upside is much higher than his trade value. If he is actually healthy, he should be able to play his stellar defense and put up numbers similar to what he has in the past. You can't get a free agent with Crede's offensive productivity for just a one year deal for $4-5 million. If he is healthy and can play well, we can keep him for the year, or trade him and get something rather than giving him away. Fields is a very good athlete. Left field is one of the least demanding positions. These games where he's trying it out are meaningless.
