Kid Gleason
RIP man. Probably end up being one of the biggest funerals in NY history. Probably one of the coolest also as far as a "whos who" list goes. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/29/arts/mus...amp;oref=slogin
The Critic
On Q101 (ironically enough) their morning zookeeper actually said something I found funny: "This means all the trendy people who would have never gotten within 100 miles of CBGB's can wear their CBGB t-shirts at half-mast" When they announced that CBGB's was closing my wife asked me if I wanted to go there before it closed. I told her that I liked the Ramones, I didn't care one bit about CBGB's. I have no emotional tie to that club, and aside from the Ramones and to a much lesser extent Talking Heads, I didn't care too much about most of the bands who played there. LosMediasBlancas
RIP. I had the pleasure of visiting CBGBs a few times and yes I have a T-Shirt which I bought many years ago. I don't wear it any more because every 13 year old owns one without any clue as to what the letters even stand for.

Kid Gleason
Well, you've been there so you're up on most of the population who owns the shirt. I never had too much of an interest in going there. Most of the bands that I associate with the name are gone, and have been for many moons. I also am not a HUGE fan of many of the bands that crawled out of there, but there are the good number that I am HUGELY in love with. But CBGB's was just a building. Hilly though made it happen, and he was instrumental in helping to change the face of music. He's the guy that booked the Dead Boys, and for that I respect the hell out of him. FlaSoxxJim
I made the pilgrimage in 1991, saw NRBQ at cbgb. LOL wtf!! RIP Hilly
Rex Kickass
He only got those bands playing at CBGB because he couldn't get an audience for Country and Bluegrass ya know.
LosMediasBlancas
I saw The Jesus Lizard there and it could not have been more perfect. The right band at the right venue at the right time in front of the right crowd. The experience from that night is one of my favorite secrets. Kid Gleason
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) He only got those bands playing at CBGB because he couldn't get an audience for Country and Bluegrass ya know. The reasons don't really matter, IMO. He booked 'em.

FlaSoxxJim
I pulled out Young, Loud and Snotty by Dead Boys last night in remembrance. My kids dug it and my wife said it gave her a migraine.
RockRaines
so in this video http://video.on.nytimes.com/index.jsp?fr_s...3233322e4570156 They show a patron with what looks to be a very obvious hammer to the forehead injury. Anyone see that?

My kids dug it and my wife said it gave her a migraine. Still works like a charm! LOL!!! IMO, that album has the greatest ending song ever. Then with the door slamming at the end, well, pure magic! DOWN IN FLAMES!!! Might just beat up the next hippy I see Maybe I'll be beating up you! Stiv was the man. The greatest front man ever. The new issue of Sonic Ruin actually has my story of how Stiv saved me from a terrible beating.

Kid Gleason
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) Cool, I will have to check that out. I didn't even know he had been killed until a few years after it happened. Hit by a car right? Yup. He was living in Paris and was hit by a car. He felt O.K. after it happened, went home and decided he didn't feel as good as he thought. He decided to sleep it off. Died of internal bleeding. Did you know that as he toured around the world the first thing he would do upon getting into each hotel room was take out a picture of his parents and set it next to the bed. His real name was Steve, but since his dad was a pretty high ranking guy in the Navy he didn't want to cause his dad any grief (his dad is also "Steve"), so he changed it to "Stiv". Everybody who met the guy would go on and on about what an incredibly nice guy he was.
