Fear God

Hey Jim, for a senior citizen, you sure don't act your age. If blacksox8 posts a thread titled "Fear God" that should be a hint to you that it might not be your type of thread. Now, had he posted a thread titled "Does God Exist?" , that might be the greenlight for you to jump in and debate. Oh wait, again, that wasn't even debating, you were mocking his beliefs in a thread he started. Big Man, Jim. I don't think he posted the vid to get mocked. Like all other soxtalk threads, Stick with the thread title if you want to take part. Otherwise, get your own thread. I really would expect a lot more from someone who has been here as long as you.

And no, I will not turn this into a 28 page debate with you like a lot of other filibuster threads. This is not a debate, it's really a respect issue.

And my thinking was that this should have been a Filibustered post. The initial post was not respectfully offered, and so yes I agree it is a respect issue. The post was a thrown down gauntlet to "wake up" by another poster who has also been around long enough to know where the divisive stuff belongs.

Moved to the Buster.

If a discussion can be had on this topic, its best to have it here, as it tends to get pretty fiery.

If that video was posted without the desire for discussion, as was hinted at, then it has no place ANYWHERE on the board, because that means it was simply a sweeping, fear-mongering accusation.

So I'll go on the assumption that the original poster wanted to have a civilized discussion. That being the case, let's try to keep the tone and material respectful, much like our most recent biblical discussions. Thanks in advance.

How was it not respectfully offered? It was directed at Christians. Are you a Christian? It sure doesn't seem like it based on the blatantly disrepectful posts that you followed it up with. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seemed pretty full of anger and hate. How do you expect to be treated with respect with those types of responses to something you disagree with?

I really do appreciate your thoughts and insights, but you went over the line. Sure it should have been filibustered, but can you admit that you may have gone too far there?

You're joking, right? The person in that link offends most of mainstream Christendom calling most people "false prophets", accusing them of faking their call to ministry, etc., and suggesting that if you are not a millitant evangelical than you don't get it and you're "not doing the right thing." He's openly mocking the way most Christians live. BlackSox, whom I have zero qualms with beyond the tone of this post posts this derisive/divisive/dismissive piece and asks Christian Soxtalkers to wake up. That is condescending and presumptuous and lacking any respect for the beliefs and feelings of mainstream Christians.

BlackSox urges Christian Soxtalkers to view the video with an open mind, but Tom Richards seems about as close-minded as you can get. Just losing the "wake up" comment would have gone a long way in the respect department.

I'm not a Christian. The songs I posted as follow-ups take a stab at the foibles of a couple of religioso subsegments - the televangelists who live in mansions and wear $1000-dollar suits and live high on the hog off the Jeez-O-Bucks they bilk out of old ladies, and those who can't leave it at "Love God, Love Your Neighbor and Do What You Will" when it comes to their brand of Christianity. If I offended you by slighting the millionaire televangelists and those who would allow their beliefs to impinge on the beliefs and freedom of belief of others, then bu all means, you are welcome to defend them and their ilk here.

Back atcha'. And to BlackSox and RangerCal. I simply view the post and accompanying video that started this thread as being belligerent in its militant evangelism and dismissiveness toward Christians whose flavor of Christianity is beneath contempt for Tom Richards, whoever the hell he is.

That to me is the point. Who is this guy to tell me how to do anything? I understand his points, but a person's walk with God is between God and them, not the appearance to everyone and everything else. Period, end of story. After that, it's not worth getting in a pissing contest about who's the better Christian... because that's not what it is about.

All I want to add is, stop poking fun at religous beliefs of others. You can't be sure if it offends people or not. Just as we don't poke fun at race, sexuality ect. religion should be off limits too(all religions, not just christianity). I don't see how it is any different than racism and one who is prejudiced towards gays.

If this is directed at both BlackSox and myself, then it's a fair cop. When he threw the stone with the first post I took the same derisive tone in my followup.

I don't see how he offended you. I didn't catch the video mocking athiesm. You would not get a peep out of me if there was a "fear athiesm" thread with a 14 minute video talking about athiesm. I likely would not even click on the thread, let alone posting videos mocking it. Why can't people just live and let live?

Doesn't the original post openly attack the religious beliefs of others?

Irreverence is another person's disrespect to your god; there isn't any word that tells what your disrespect to his god is.

If you start a thread with the title "Fear God" then you should expect someone to poke fun.

Why? Not saying I agree with using a message board to send out this type of message (should be a one-on-one conversation IMO), but why?

you are a real tool.

I'm not really participating in this thread, and really don't have much of a say on any of this (at least, not on a message board where I don't know the people that well), but if you're complaining about respecting other people and their beliefs, perhaps you shouldn't be making comments like this.
