Molto
http://www.soxnet.net/schuelerresigns.html SN Report #340 - By Mario Scalise - September 23rd, 2002 - www.soxnet.net Former Sox GM Ron Schueler, who stepped down almost two years ago and became the Sox senior vice president and special consultant to Jerry Reinsdorf, resigned Sunday afternoon. Before leaving Schueler expressed his unhappiness with the team's chemistry along with his duties as special consultant. Schueler believed that the 2000 Sox were a team on the verge of being a championship caliber team, but somewhere along the way it dissapeared, an obvious knock toward current Sox GM Kenny Williams. Schueler is unhappy with the players that have been brought in and suggested to Reinsdorf before departing that he evaluate all acquisitions he makes. This was said in regards to such pickups like Royce Clayton and Kenny Lofton, which were rumored to be clubhouse cancers in their short stay. Ron Schueler did talk about the Ritchie trade, saying he was a backer of the deal. His only concern was in giving up Josh Fogg. Despite that, the 54-year old Schueler, who has been in the Sox organization for over ten years, did not resign on bad terms. Apparently Schueler wants to return to the GM-post instead of being used sporadically by the Sox as a AAA Charlotte evaluator. Schueler will be taking offers this off-season. Guest hotsoxchick1
what kills me about that little dig against kenny ( and keep in mind i cant stand kenny) schu was the main puppeteer behind kennys moves.. if kenny said how about this?? schu said no go for this.....he has screwed up this team this year behind the scenes long enough...im glad hes going......only wish he would take kenny with him.... RedPinStripes
If KW ends up as a good gm after this, guess we attacked the wrong guy.
Guest hotsoxchick1
well i dont seriously think kenny will ever be a good gm.. hes mediocer..he did a great job down on our farm system when he was in charge of it but i think major league is a bit over his head... its one thing to deal with a bunch of minor owners for trades and such.. but to deal with guys who have been around the block for years and years is a whole different ball game and one which kenny isnt ready to play on his own.... Chisoxfn
Well, I was the minority on the Manos front and I'm starting to turn a bit on that, but I still think that KW can turn into a good gm, maybe even a great gm.
Guest hotsoxchick1
the one main reason kenny cant be a good gm is because he doesnt know his role.... when he was in charge of the minor system he called all the shots.. he doesnt need to do that up here because he has others who take care of certian jobs.. if he keeps undermining them then it sends a bad message to the team...as we have seen this season many times....kenny needs to take less control over the clubhouse in matters such as everyday lineups and who plays, who doesnt and let the coaches coach.... his trading abilities will be proven when he doesnt have schu to fall back on anymore...i seriously dont think kennys days here are going to be extended... so dont get too used to seeing his face around ..... Chisoxfn
The one thing Kw will have to do different next season is let his manager manage. He should have some input on the ideas, but in the end it should be the managers call. Of course, I don't want to see him trade any of our top players unless we are getting a true superstar. I agree with everything you say except the last line. Don't you think he has just won or is at least winning a power struggle? I know that you are closer to the situation than I am. Hope you are right about him being gone. Yesterday would be soon enough for me.
Guest hotsoxchick1
kenny is a control freak no doubt there.. but jr will only put up with a control freak for so long.. he likes to have the control.. do you think that jr will keep kenny around to run the team into the ground while hes losing out on money??? kenny is not a very popular guy here, fans hate him...we havent had a gm like that in a long time ( excluding hawks brief stint).. you think hawk may be ready to retire and they are priming kenny to join dj in the booth lol????we can only wish.. i am hanging around to hear word from a friend of mine as to any more info on the latest power struggles in the office.. one thing we know for sure.. kenny will never have enough money to buy the team outright so he will never own it lol... and jr will never let kenny have total control....there is always a puppetmaster hidden in a closet somewhere..... LDF
good post. the problem i see is that with kw at the helm, trading is going to be interesting. we really don't need much, only 1 or 2 players.
greg775
The problem is pitchers cost so much damn money. When are teams like the Red Sox, Mets, Rangers, whomever have overspent gonna realize you don't need to keep paying megabucks for flop players? Pitchers are way overpriced. Their arms can blow out anyday. Can you say Wilson Alvarez? Alex Fernandez? Why do these owners just throw away money?
Chisoxfn
Thats what I think will change this offseason now that those teams won't be as willing to over pay for certain pitchers like Denny Neagle's and such. As far as KW and Jr go, I think they get along great and will as long as KW is doing his job and doing thinks alright in JR's book.
