Rex Hudler
QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 1 2003, 09:28 PM) Konerko can refuse the assignment, and even if he does accept the demotion, any team can snag him off of waivers. Cerb, help me out here. I am pretty good on waiver/options rules, but I am little iffy in this particular instance. Is it not possible for Konerko to have options left? Each player has three options. When, if these options are not used do they expire? Taking an extreme case here, let's look at a guy like Mark Prior who has never had an option exercised. What if, two years from now, the Cubs wanted to send him down to AAA? What if it were 5 years from now? 10 years? See where I am coming from? This all may be a moot point because Paulie could have had no options left anyway, but I am searching for knowledge here.
Chisoxfn
I'm thinking if they have a major league contract then they expire. Cause isn't that why Willy Mo Pena can't be sent down?

However im not sure that the CBA doesnt have some type of clause that voids it if a player has X numbers of service time. BTW Sexy Rexy......how could I get a set of those Barons cards. I mean a media mogule like myslef (on the barons media mailing list) should be able to get em. right?

Wily Mo is out of options. He originally signed a Major League contract so his first three years in the Minors were all option years. I got the pic from the order page on their web site. Will buy my sets tomorrow or Thursday at the game. I do know that they don't make many sets compared to other teams. I have been told that in the past. And unfortunately, they don't do a Team Set Giveaway Night anymore either. So I just buy mine.

Still, I'd think that having Konerko up there and signing a major league contract and the extension would of done that. Looking on yahoo right now to find something. That's the reason for my question. What is the trigger that makes a player not susceptible to options that may have never been used?
Chisoxfn
Couldn't find anything on this. I looked at the mlb.com rule book, but it had crap.
YASNY
I really think the trigger is a certain amount of ML service time. But how much?

I think after the five years, you have no options, unless you're God awful like Josh Paul and can clear waivers.
