Jenksismyhero
Anyone else watching this? It's kind of tough to devote 3-3.5 hours a night watching it, but I did manage to watch about half of the first "chapter" on Sunday. So far it's lived up to my expectations. Ken Burns is an incredible documentarian/film maker.
sox4lifeinPA
DVRRRRRRRRRRRrrr'd it. Will try to watch it at some point. I have the Civil War on DVD. Love it.
kapkomet
I need to get that on DVD. I LOVED that when it came out in 1990.
Jenksismyhero
From what I watched it's better than The Civil War (which I loved) only because he uses color video I've never seen before. It adds a whole new sense of realism to WW2 that I haven't really gotten anywhere else. Add that to the way he brings life to pictures and its great stuff. Yossarian
Pardon me if I don't fall all over myself in praise of Ken Burns. His Jazz documentary left many of us disappointed. Yes, he has talent. Yes he provides a depth to a subject that is rarely seen today. When you tackle mammoth projects like he does, you're sure to have your critics. Burns sometimes falls off the mark, and short of the mark while attempting to do things no one else will do.

Agreed on Ken Burns' Jazz being a flawed gem, and also with it being a herculean undertaking that not many filmmakers would have pulled off nearly so well. The companion book co-authored with Geoffrey Ward and the complete audio CD box that came out for Jazz, on the other hand, I think are outstanding. kapkomet
He does do things well, though. And if he messed up one, he's entitled, I suppose.

You mean the first half is a new piece Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed/Thurs and than the 2nd half will have a few pieces beginning on Sunday? Or are they replaying the first half every day until Sunday?
