CardsJimEdmonds15
Jocketty out as Cards' general manager By Bernie Miklasz POST-DISPATCH SPORTS COLUMNIST 10/03/2007 The Cardinals and general manager Walt Jocketty have "parted ways," according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. The Cardinals have scheduled a 4 p.m. news conference to discuss Jocketty’s departure after 13 seasons as GM. Assistant general manager John Mozeliak has been named interim GM by Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. and is a candidate to succeed Jocketty on a full-time basis. Jocketty’s contract runs through 2008 and he apparently reached terms on a financial settlement with DeWitt in a meeting Wednesday morning. [Link] Bye Tony.. Maybe.. maybe not.. but this isnt a good sign for Tony either.. As GM, Jocketty fortified the roster with acquisitions such as Mark McGwire, Jim Edmonds, Edgar Renteria, Darryl Kile, Chris Carpenter, Scott Rolen, Woody Williams, Dennis Eckersley, Todd Stottlemyre, Fernando Vina, Adam Wainwright, Jason Marquis, Larry Walker, Will Clark and Jeff Weaver. But other than Weaver, who pitched well in the 2006 postseason, Jocketty has been unable to make high-impact acquisitions over the last two seasons. Thanks for everything Walt.. you did what you could.. you helped bring us a World Championship.. man.. what a sad day..

whitesoxfan101
I hope Walt and Tony enjoy their new jobs as GM and Manager in Cincinnati. Those whispers have been out there since about Memorial Day though, worst kept secret in a while. southsider2k5
This is an organization that never really hit free agency at all. It was amazing that they have stuck around as many years as they have.
knightni
You'd think that with as large of a fan base as they had, that the Cards would have gotten better free agents. They could have avoided going on "the cheap" so much with their free agent pitchers if they had wanted to. They easily have 3 times the cash flow of he Sox. As long as we stop giving people these terrible nicknames because modern humanity can't handle more than two syllables.
