Yeah, this has been in the papers for a few weeks now. Cops screwed up - should have checked even if they kid said nothing, and certainly after he said to check. That is reckless abandonment, textbook. Kid lied too of course - said he was sober, said he insisted over and over again. Plenty of idiots involved.
