Don't get caught up with prospects

I used to for years and years, but chance like this year are too far and few. Most prospects never make it. We are keeping the very hi-profile ones (have to give up something and Ring was a good one, but not one of our top ones). We are going for it ladies and gents and that is all we can ask.

We can always rebuild the system, if we trade off enough minor leaguers, maybe we will even stretch out the pocket book enuf to sign a couple that look unsignable since we need to get some players on the rosters.

Please, forget about what could be and lets go for it. I am 46 years old, been cheering for Sox since early 60s and this is the FIRST time I have seen us make this type of commitment. Almost like having a Steinbrenner in charge.

I agree 100%. Some of the kids on the board are probably still optimistic enough to believe the build through the farm system b.s. I wish we had gotten even better talent, but superstars near the end of their careers is the game we're playing. The really nice thing is we aren't committed to long range contracts on fading players. Can you say $15 million of Maddux. Somewhere Veeck is smiling.

:cheers

If this blows up in Kenny's face I promise to not lead the fire KW parade.

If JM can't handle Everett I will add it to my list ;)

I'm only partially getting caught up in prospects. The other part just plain doubts Everett is that big of an upgrade. On the surface it seems like he would be a huge upgrade (and may be), but dig deeper and I just don't see the numbers.

I had no problem with Ring going in the Alomar deal. Let's just hope that Honel or Cotts or even Wing are not included in the Everett deal (I know supposedly at least Honel is not).

I wish I was only 46 years old again. :D

I have seen the prospects come and go with all kinds of mixed results in the last half century.

The future has never arrived here in my lifetime yet, or my Father's either.

1917 was another time and in another world. Time to go for broke, while I'm still above ground. :bringit

If we only have a dog's chance in Hell of getting to the play offs and doing some good there, I say go for it now. :cheers

Rex, the key to both trades is smart baseball and Defense. ARow and Harris cannot play CF like Everett. ARow is a corner OF, nuff said, he can back up the other two guys. Harris someday could be a very good CF, he needs to play it in AAA or winter ball to get better. I do not want him learning on the job when we are fighting for a division title.

Anything Everett hits will be a bonus, and he should hit better than the production we have gotten out of CF this year.

We dump two dumb ballplayers, Rios and DJ, nice guys sure, but they did not play the game smart.

Nuff said, I hear ya, but disagree.

dont you get tired of this year after year..... i know i do.......im not getting too caught up in the minor guys being gone just yet.. but IF this mess doesnt pan out and we dont go anywhere after these moves come october, we will be in for another 4 or so years of rebuilding the system again....its getting old.....why cant we keep a few good ones in reserve for a just in case....... it couldnt hurt......right???

Since when has Carl Everett been known for playing any more than an average CF?? Don't kid yourself, this move wasn't made for better D in CF. It was made because of his perceived bat.

I hope I am wrong here, but I just don't see him making that big of a difference. The words you just said about Everett were almost exactly what I have said about Alomar.

Everett is pathetic in centerfield, everything that goes out there turns into a double or triple.

His bat will help, but he's no centerfielder. He can't run a lick.
