North Dakota lost to Boston College 6-1 which is nuts cuz North Dakota was the 3rd overall team in the tourney and they are full of studs like T.J. Oshie(going to be wearing rival blue sweater next season)

 

Notre Dame started their game against Michigan 3-0 now its 4-4 with about 5 minutes left in the 3rd

 

i wanted a ND-ND game but thats no more, atleast like to see Notre Dame in it

I didn't really pay attention to the names of the Wolves last night, but there was a player who wasn't exactly to cool with being called for a penalty. And he wasn't going into the box, the official was standing there and the Wolves player had like one foot in the box and was screaming at the ref, and he ended up kicking the boards once or twice, and all of the sudden he was tossed. He skated over to exit the ice and came back around the net like he wanted to keep yelling. And he either slammed his stick on the crossbar, or threw it out on the ice.

 

It was quite the scene, Critic! I was in sec 116, the first row behind the glass, and there we're a few people there who we're really pissed and just making complete fools of themselves.

Someone on the Hawks message board was saying Rosemont PD had to escort a Hogs player (they said someone who was scratched) out of the game during the 3rd due to an altercation in th back. Did you see or hear anything about that?

 

As for Versteeg that was weird. From where I was sitting, I saw the Wolves player come out of the box and he bumped into the linesman and he fell down, then I saw Versteeg dive down and started to go to town. No idea where that came from at all.

The few times I've seen Huet in net... he looks like he's one to give up some fat rebounds. That's an admittedly small sample size, mind you, but combined with the fact that Montreal was willing to trade him for just a second-rounder... well, color me skeptical about giving him big money this winter (not that I'm really worried the Hawks will do that anyways, as I think we're looking at a Bulin/Crawford tandem).

I understand that 100%, but the Red Wings have always been my second favorite team (I'm old enough to have seen late-prime Gordie Howe), so I'm for them all the way since the Hawks are gone.

Blog by Suntimes Assistant Sports Editor, Roman Modrowski. It was in the weekend paper, thought I would find it on the web.

 

Prediction: Pat Foley will return to Blackhawks I'm willing to put money on this one. As new Hawks president John McDonough taps into the organization's glory days, such as they are, look for him to bring back the popular Pat Foley, who's currently under contract as the Wolves' play-by-play man.

 

Foley did not leave on good terms with the Hawks. I believe there were hard feelings between Foley and Jim DeMaria, who recently was fired by McDonough.

 

McDonough has made a point of rebuilding bridges, whether it was with Bobby Hull or other players who had trouble with Hawks management.

 

These are new times with the Blackhawks. There's a new Wirtz in town, home games are being televised, Hull is back as a team ambassador. One of the next logical steps is bringing back Foley.

 

My money says it's going to happen.

I'd be fine with Foley coming back (especially if they bring Gardner back with him), but I'd be just as fine with simulcasting Wiederman. To me he's every bit as good, if not better, than Foley.

A radio guy simulcasting would be just fine - he's already calling it for radio, so the descriptions would be there. A TV guy calling it might leave something out, since he relies on the video to show the play developing.

I just really don't care if Foley comes back to the Hawks or not. He's a very good PBP guy, I just think he's been lifted to legendary status when IMO he's a notch or two below that. Same with Messmer - I think people romanticize these guys because they remind them of a better time.

Top 10 prospects according to Sassone;

 

1. Jack Skille, RW

 

He had some memorable moments in 11 games with the Hawks this season, getting 3 goals and 2 assists.

 

Skille has size, speed and skill. The only reason he was sent back to Rockford was to fine tune a few things, such as wandering away from his position to chase the puck.

 

"This kid is going to be a good Hawk for a long time," coach Denis Savard said.

 

2. Niklas Hjalmarsson, D

 

He's right with Crawford and Skille in terms of potential to play in Chicago next season. An injury slowed Hjalmarsson early, but he has come on strong.

 

The Hawks like his ability to move the puck and potential to be a dangerous open-ice hitter.

 

"He's starting to learn the North American game," Tallon said. "We think he's going to be a good one."

 

3. Corey Crawford, G

 

The Hawks think Crawford is ready to play 25-30 games next season as Nikolai Khabibulin's backup, and why not? He was brilliant in a 44-save performance in a 3-1 loss at Detroit March 11 and just as good in a 3-0 shutout of Anaheim days earlier.

 

"He's right on schedule," Tallon said. "He's big, strong and has tremendous desire. He doesn't let a lot of things bother him."

 

4. Troy Brouwer, RW

 

He's now scored 30 or more goals in two straight seasons in the American Hockey League. Brouwer has improved his skating and there's no doubt about his nose for the net.

 

5. Akim Aliu, C

 

The Hawks considered the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Aliu one of the steals of last June's draft, viewing him as a potential difference maker. Some teams questioned Aliu's character, but the Hawks took a chance and are happy they did.

 

"He's starting to get it," Tallon said. "He's a big kid who can play all three positions."

 

A season in the AHL might be best for Aliu, but don't dismiss his chances at training camp of making a strong push for a roster spot.

 

6. Kris Versteeg, LW

 

He had some impressive games with the Hawks, getting 2 goals and 2 assists in 13 appearances. Versteeg plays with energy and grit, and he has a decent scoring touch to go with good speed.

 

7. Petri Kontiola, C

 

He put up big numbers at Rockford (67 points in 65 games through Saturday), and was solid in 12 games with the Hawks. The Hawks like his offensive upside a lot.

 

8. Mike Blunden, RW

 

A lot of teams tried to trade for the future power forward this season with Tallon refusing to part with him. With only 15 goals in 73 games through Saturday for Rockford, Blunden was still trying to make up for missing most of last year with a shoulder injury.

 

9. Nathan Davis, C-LW

 

The Miami-Ohio star who signed with the Hawks on Friday, was a Hobey Baker finalist as a junior but this season battled injuries as a senior. Davis is another quick forward who has the potential to be a scorer.

 

10. Dan Bertram, RW

 

The Boston College star opened a lot of eyes at rookie camp last summer with Savard ranking him with Toews, Kane and Hjalmarsson as the most impressive kids that week.

 

Honorable mention: Bryan Bickell, LW, Rockford; Evan Brophey, C, Rockford; Danny Richmond, D, Rockford; Bill Sweatt, LW, Colorado College; Josh Unice, G, Kitchener.

Couple of notes on that list:

 

- I like Hjalmarsson the best of the bunch -- he appears to have some good instincts as a defenseman, especially on the offensive end. He's the main reason why I don't want the Hawks to go after Campbell, as I think in a few years, the Hawks will have a couple of different options to quarterback the PP (Barker, Hjalmarsson and even Keith). Hjalmarsson's also got a bit of a mean streak -- once he fills out a bit he's going to be quite the defenseman.

 

- Aliu would rate second for me -- mean streak, loads of talent and physical as hell. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the eventual Flyers/Hawks matchup a couple of years from now where Aliu will get a chance to beat the s*** out of that prick Downey on a national stage.

 

- I think Kontiola is generally underrated. He doesn't look like a scorer, but he strikes me as a pretty intelligent hockey player capable of setting guys up and play a defensively-sound game. I'd look to add those guys as deal-sweeteners to land somebody from a team that's going to be up against the cap ala the Havlat deal (read: Philly). Jeff Carter would look mighty nice as the second-line center behind Toews. That would push Bolland (or Lang) to the third line, and the Hawks would almost certainly be rolling three lines that could score.

 

- I have no idea what to think about guys like Blunden, Bickell or Brouwer, or even guys like Skille and Crawford.
