God a league with 3 on 3 with no checking would be figure skating with sticks...lol. Yeah his second was a thing of beauty. Glad I was wrong about not drafting him due to his size...oops. I thought the shootout shots at the end were ok but it seems they are trying to turn it into the dunk contest.

Yeah, that last part with the judges needs to go away.

It's impossible to have any hockey skill be like a slam-dunk contest. It just doesn't work.

The thing I was complaining about to my wife is that no one did anything fancy until they got in too close to the goalie. They had room from center ice all the way in to do some dipsy-doodle moves and then regroup to try to put it past the goalie.

Maybe it'll develop and progress in the coming years if they keep it, which I hope they don't.

Also, PLEASE return the fastest skater contest to the way it was before - it was MUCH more interesting to see if guys could sustain high speeds around the entire ice surface, not just a sprint from line to line.

Exactly the fastest skater was so much better with the old way. It made no sense what so ever. D. Keith blew away Campbell in his race though so it was nice to see. Hell in the shootout/slum dunk contest, they showed that 9 yr old kid that did and awesome trick and it completely blew out any of the pros tricks.

I actually kind of like that last event "slam dunk"-like contest they do. I could do without the judges, but over the coming years you're going to see some real cool stuff -- Ovechkin pulled out some real neat stuff on his couple of attempts. I'm sure you'll also see someone do the Sidney Crosby "lift on the stick and 'lacrosse' it into the goal" move. There's just sooooo much creativity to be had. The announcer even made mention of the fact that the player can start off ANYWHERE he wants inside the offensive zone.

Basically, it's a much better version of the slam-dunk contest. The only difference is that in the slam-dunk contest, just about everything has been done at this point -- there's not a whole lot the players can do differently. That will eventually happen to the NHL's version, too, but for now (and for the next decade or so, if they keep the event), there's going to be room for a LOT of creativity and I think you'll see some really nifty moves.

On a separate note, let me also echo the sentiments about Duncan Keith getting f***ed in the fastest skater -- he clearly beat Brian Campbell and -- I don't know if anyone else noticed this -- they gave Campbell Keith's time and vice versa. I'm pretty sure DK is the fastest skater there.

The slam dunk esque contest was pretty interesting. I like seeing guys try some crazy stuff to try to score. I also like mixing it up with the obstacle course, get some new things in there. And as you've said, go back to the old fastest skater competition. The way it is now it's a who's the best at accelerating competition, not really who's the fastest for a longer period of time.

3 on 3 was fun to watch, it'd be retarded if they did that in a real game, but for the youngstars it was nice entertainment. Kane with the sweet 2 goals. Also, breakaways don't equal cherrypicking, if you look at how the breakaways started. They all started in the defensive zone.

Yeah, he beat him by like 5 strides yet was somehow ruled to have lost and Campbell was picked as the fastest skater in the East?

It made NO sense their little timing bulls***. They need to race the lap next year.

Versus has double header of HD Hockey today with Buffalo/Tampa and San Jose/Edmonton and another one tomorrow that includes the Hawks/Avs game at 8:30.

I hope that Hawks/Avs game isn't blacked out on VS for a CSN broadcast. I'd love to watch it in HD!

Comcast doesn't have it tomorrow, it's exclusively versus.

I love it.

Too bad Buffalo jumped out to such an early lead. Boy Tampa sucks this year... hopefully game 2 will be more rewarding.

It's wierd to think the Hawks are only six points out of a playoff spot considering EVERYTHING that's gone wrong this year. Of course, they only have to jump about 25 teams to get to that 8th spot, but six points is doable -- I'm sorry, I'm just greedy... even for a first-round one-and-done.

f***ing Khabibulin is worthless.

That first goal he gave up was pretty pathetic even if he was partially screened by Sopel. Put Lalime in for gods sake.

These guys have had like 5 days off and they look tired.
