The Critic
It's not looking good for the Tribe. Game 7 on the road, after losing two straight? (and YES, I was informed of Cleveland's past playoff successes in Game 7's and in Boston, but this feels ominous to me)
Brian
This reminds me of Cardinals vs. Braves in 96. Cards up 3-1 than get pwned 3 straight.
Big Hurtin
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 10:27 PM) WTF are you talking about? I don't even have a clue what you're trying to get at at this point, other than the sports radio caller mentality of, "THEY'RE CHOKING!". It's not choking, it's losing a baseball game to a f***ing damn good team. I thought Cleveland was a " f***ing damn good team" too, no? They aren't playing their best. My eyes tell me they came out playing tight. This is where sports debates cannot be won because it cannot be quantified. If you think sports are played in a vacuum and emotion never enters into it then I don't know what to say.
CWSGuy406
QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 02:34 AM) I thought Cleveland was a " f***ing damn good team" too, no? They aren't playing their best. So if a team doesn't play their best, it's considered choking? If you think sports are played in a vacuum and emotion never enters into it then I don't know what to say. Where did I say it doesn't? I'm saying it's one great team beating another great team -- that happens. You're taking it to the extreme saying it's a choke job, saying that "your eyes" can tell they're choking. Yes, I can picture Grady Sizemore and Travis Hafner holding each other tight in the clubhouse, scared of big ole Fenway Park. Choke!

Big Hurtin
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) So if a team doesn't play their best, it's considered choking? Not their best, no. Stinking up the joint, quite probable. Bottom line, Cleveland had 3 chances to win 1 game. The Red Sox had 1 chance to win 3 games. It's funny, the Cubs seem to be the only team that's "allowed" to choke.
SoxAce
Very classy of Schilling. Swearing on national television. Even though part of me is happy about it cause its Sportscenter whose airing it.

The Ginger Kid
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) Choke? Hilarious. These are the two best teams in baseball facing off against each other. Both lineups are extremely tough. Yeah, they're might be some nerves at work here but I love that it can never just be one team is better than the other (on that night) -- there's always got to be a side story. If someone would've told me before the series that it didn't go six or seven games, I would've been shocked. Their 19 game winner didn't make it out of the third. Their ace got shelled in game 5. Hafner is lost at the plate. I think it's fair to say what's happening to the Indians, at least some of them, is a choke job.
RockRaines
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Choke? Hilarious. These are the two best teams in baseball facing off against each other. Well, the offensive output from very consistently good players is outside of the norm, the laying of eggs by two of the best pitchers in the league is out of the norm. When extremely good players appear to perform poorly whilst under playoff pressure is usually somewhat of a choke job. If you dont think that Carmona's nerves got the best of him last night then you need to re-watch the game. Both teams are very good, Boston just seems to play better when more is on the line, and Cle appears to be playing worse.
Milkman delivers
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 20, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) Cle is folding under the pressure. Hafner is laying a huge egg in this series. They look very wide-eyed out there. Don't forget Fatty McGee. He's sucked in all of his postseason starts, I believe.

Brian
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) It's possibly losing 3 straight games with a chance to go to the World Series by just winning one. I'd call that choking. Cleveland is just getting owned. It's not like they are letting grounders go through their legs, booting DP balls, and having fans interfere in crucial situations. Greg The Bull Luzinski
For about the last three games, Cleveland looks like they don't even belong. The disappearing of their offense reminds me of Vlad and the Angels vanishing act in 2005. This is really hard to watch.

I think we can lump Jose Mesa and the 1997 Indians World Series team in there too ... at least as far as closing the deal goes.
Gregory Pratt
Are White Sox fans of all people ridiculing a franchise for "not being able to close the deal"? Since 1994, the Indians have been to three World Series -- that's 3/5ths as many as our franchise has in its entire existence. Sure, we won in 2005, and I'll always be happy for that, but it's pretty silly to see White Sox fans mock another franchise for being down by one run in the ALCS.
