WhiteSoxfan1986
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) why do you think this, in general. The gambling aspect? Because most people in Vegas are transplants, and aren't going to adopt another team (AKA Florida, Phoenix). Then you have the fact that the 51's don't draw well. Then of course the gambling aspect. DBAHO
Portland makes the most sense for mine. It would allow for the Athletics to stay in the AL West, and they would develop a pretty good rivalry with Seattle. Someone suggested Salt Lake City, that's not a bad idea, but it'd also be playing in Coors Field all over again, so they'd need to have a humidor to keep the runs down. I think they'd get pretty good support in Portland, they were pretty devoted to the Blazers in the 90's, until they became the "Jail Blazers". I think they'd get pretty good support in Portland, they were pretty devoted to the Blazers in the 90's, until they became the "Jail Blazers". Interesting. Approximate altitudes of the cities mentioned... Reference: Denver: 5300' ASL (and typically fairly dry and variable in temp) SLC: 4200' (and typically very dry and hot) Portland: 600' (and typically somewhat humid and moderate in temp) San Antonio: 1000' (and moderately humid and hot) Albuquerque: 5000' (and typically very dry and somewhat hot) Charlotte: 700' (and typically somewhat humid and somewhat hot) Vegas: 2200' (and typically very dry and very hot) Nashville: 500' (and typically somewhat humid and somewhat hot) Altitude and dry air are issues at SLC and ABQ, and Vegas and Portland would probably need an indoor or retractable roof stadium. So those are issues at those locations.
Linnwood
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) I'm pretty sure the A's already signed a deal to move to Fremont, California. Here is a link... http://ballparks.com/baseball/american/oakbpk.htm Hugo Chávez Field. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) Comedy Gold Would this make the Athletics the most moved team in MLB history? (4 cities? The Boston, Milwaukee, Atlanta Braves is the only other three cities team I can think of off hand.) southsider2k5
QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) Teams survive on the hometown fanatics. Vegas is too much tourism. San Antonio has done well in supporting the Spurs, through thick and slightly less thick. I'm not certain about the San Antonio / McAllen reference. McAllen is 4 hours from San Antonio and I'm not certain how that would fit in. Las Vegas has over 1 million people there now.
