South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) Ha! Ill give them Josh, Gio, Jerry, Nick and David. Go ahead take the whole bunch of them. LOL! We'll even throw in Sisco to sweeten the deal!

spiderman
It sounds like they are only in the mix if other teams back out or aren't interested.
jackie hayes
At first I thought this was just absurd. The Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, probably the Angels can easily beat any offer of ours. But it doesn't sound as if they want to. I can't believe this is beginning to sound almost possible.
RME JICO
Is it possible to merge this with almost the exact same thread in TW? Edited November 11, 2007 by RME JICO
joejoesox
you'd have to think that if this got close to getting done, detroit and maybe even cleveland would try to c*ck block us with offering up a deal of their own to florida, afterall both of those teams could use an upgrade at third base (Inge is a bit better defensively but that's it, Blake is getting old) and left field (Lofton? lol, and cabrera >>> thames) i dunno, could be totally wrong about the whole thing, but would anyone be shocked at the last minute that detroit would try to pony up a deal of their own just to keep us from getting him? bmags
no. But I don't think we are even close to getting him anyway, but yeah, all things considered I feel like detroit would do something like that.

santo=dorf
The White Sox are in the mix for Miguel Cabrera, with the intention of playing him in left field, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports. Rosenthal suggests a package of Josh Fields, Gio Gonzalez and Jerry Owens, though he admits it could be too light. Which it would be. Trading Jon Garland for a couple of prospects and then packaging those prospects with Fields and/or Gonzalez might work. The Marlins could also have some interest in Nick Masset and David Aardsma. No! Not Masset, Aardsma, and Owens!!! Perhaps the Marlins still have interest in Brian Anderson. Anderson, Masset, Aardsma, Owens, Hall, and Gio for Cabrera and Olivo! BurlyMan56
We Don't need Cabrera. We need a leadoff hitter, a SS, a center fielder, not a lazy star who is going to be making alot of money real real soon. He is going to cost a ton and make a ton, give me Josh for the next 5-6 years. We don't need a middle of the order power hitter that reminds me of Carlos Lee. Miguel is obviously a ton better than Carlos Lee but both resemble the same type of player. Lazy. If you wanna go big, give me Crawford and sign Hunter/Rowand. DBAHO
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 08:26 AM) No! Not Masset, Aardsma, and Owens!!! Perhaps the Marlins still have interest in Brian Anderson. Anderson, Masset, Aardsma, Owens, Hall, and Gio for Cabrera and Olivo! Hmmm very interesting. Obviously the Sox have major interest in Miggy right now. And he could be a major building block for this team, although there are still some major issues to sort through. Would the Sox be better served by trying to keep Fields at 3B, trading Crede for a good prospect, and then use that prospect along with ones that you get from dealing Garland and adding Gio to try and make a deal here. Miggy's obviously a superstar, but if there's anyway we can get him, and be able to keep Fields instead of Crede (without dealing De Los Santos as one of the prospects), that's probably my #1 scenario here. And by all means offer them fringe arms such as Masset and Aardsma if they want them. And what do we do for a leadoff hitter? Are we forced to then use Jerry Owens as our everyday CF, and hope he can carry on with what he did over the past 2 months of 2007 (which maybe wishful thinking?) Unfortunately we have our everyday SS in Uribe now. Would you give up Fields, Gonzalez and say Egbert for Crawford, and would the Rays do that deal? Crawford's pretty close to an untouchable, due to his contract and various skills etc. Would the Sox be better served trying to acquire Rocco Baldelli on the cheap instead? What would we give them, Gio and Crede/Fields plus more? Okay, all due respect, but read the threads on this subject and your question is answered. As of now, it sounds like the Yanks refuse to offer any one of the big three, the Angels will offer Wood + a pittance, the Sawks won't offer any big youngins, and noone's really heard from the Dodgers. Now, I don't believe that's the end of it, but just supposing those refusals were legitimate, I don't see why we wouldn't have a shot. EvilJester99
I wonder if the Dodgers aren't waiting to see what's going to happen with A Rod b4 making a move for Cabrera.

No reason to think ARod moves before Cabrera. If anything, the fact that the Angels are interested in both might make Cabrera more likely to move first. You would rather have a hitter that hit under 250 and has a propensity to strike out, over one of the leagues best hitters who happens to be 24. That makes sense. I like Josh as much as the next person, so let me be very blunt.
