WCSox
Whaaaa? Cabrera is pretty decent, but since when is that ALL you can get for a veteran middle-of-the-rotation pitcher??? Geez, if they wanted to dump Garland's salary, at least wait until June or July, when you could force a bidding war. The only possible rationale I can see is that there is something wrong with Jon's shoulder that we don't know about. Other than that, this is really bad. Gregory Pratt
QUOTE(StatManDu @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) The Sox just acquired Royce Clayton again. ... Do you think KW thought he was getting Miguel Cabrera? LOL It's entirely possible. Wouldn't be a first!

bulokis
Wow, this is f****** stupid. We could not get Aybar at least? We could have traded Garland for Renteria but we got Cabrera woo hoooooooooooo

Ask Colorado on the haul they got for Jason Jennings in the same situation. We get a 33 year old SS. We are the Chicago Giants.

RockRaines
Just heard it on the Score as well. This is absolutely ridiculous. In what world is this a good trade? So Wood's back to short? Cabrera deal in works? Kendrick to Marlins. Figgins to second. This could be a dramatically revamped team in 2008. I. Don't. Like. It. Especially this deal. Cabrera leaves after 2008 but living in Chicago, I've watched Garland his whole career. This is the definition of an mediocre pitcher. WCSox
Something has to be wrong with Jon's shoulder. This just makes zero sense otherwise.

joeynach
Uh we just filled one hole and opening another. Usually those trades are kinda of dumb. We all know we needed a SS upgrade but at the expense of a huge hole in the rotation. WTF.

If Kenny deals one more pitcher who gets injured shortly thereafter, he'll deserve to be fired. It's a violation of a cardinal rule among GMs that you're open about things like that and it's a bulls*** thing to do. Besides, you seem to think KW is beyond simply making terrible stupid ridiculous laughable decisions.

Well he is right about that Garland is definatly the definition of a mediorce. He will always be 12-12 with a 4.4 ERA.
Steve9347
There must be another deal in the works. I can't accept that this is kenny's big move. A 33 year old shortstop. My God, let's just sign Torii already and become the SF Giants.

Kalapse
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Do we happen to know whether he'd be in the "Type A" group of players? From this perspective the deal should be a win. Garland was a type B for '06/'07 while Cabrera was a type A. So if Orlando Cabrera matches his production from '06 or '07 he'll be a type A free agent while Garland will have to have a pretty big year in order to move up in the grading (he wasn't all that close to being a type A.) So if I had to guess, Garland will be a type B and Cabrera will be a type A. But then you have to ask yourself; will a team be willing to surrender a 1st round pick for a 34 year old Cabrera?
