What kind of draft choices do the White Sox give up guys?

The White Sox will lose their 2nd round pick for this deal. Unless we sign another Type A Free Agent (Hunter?), at which point we will lose our 3rd round pick to the Brewers most likely, depending on exactly how guys are ranked.

So I wonder who goes on the forty man roster now...

Andy Gonzalez maybe probably hopefully dear god get him out of here.

Is it worth 19 million and a 2nd round pick to get him off the 40 man? Maybe.

Well it doesn't look like the White Sox are afraid to spend money to fix problems.

I know there will be people on this site who will shoot this signing to pieces. This guy historically has taken the ball though. It's an improvement and very frankly the money is not much of a concern to me, they have it and will spend it.

I don't think it's a bad move at all. At first I was a bit dissapointed with the Garland trade, but once I thought about it Cabrera seems like he will feel a need pretty nicely. Linebrink at the very least has shown some consistency in his numbers from year to year. If we can add a CF and the back end of the rotation can holld up, I'm encouraged about next year.

soxfaninpa,

I believe several more moves are in store. More bullpen, all purpose guy, two OF's, and a minor move or two.

Why?

Linebrink's peripherals are terrible. K/BB ratio was just at 2-to-1 last year. His homerun rate isn't anything special. It's too much money for a not-great reliever.

There's lots of reasons not to like this deal.
