soxbearsbulls
4 years @ 19 million according to ESPN 1000/Bruce Levine.
Balta1701
Yes, ESPN 1000 just repeated it. Pending Physical.
Balta1701
QUOTE(soxfaninpa @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 07:19 PM) I don't believe it. Especially being that it's the poster's first post ever. It's actually on ESPN1000, he's not making it up. Both Tony and I just heard it repeated.
29andPoplar
What kind of draft choices do the White Sox give up guys?

Balta1701
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 07:20 PM) What kind of draft choices do the White Sox give up guys? The White Sox will lose their 2nd round pick for this deal. Unless we sign another Type A Free Agent (Hunter?), at which point we will lose our 3rd round pick to the Brewers most likely, depending on exactly how guys are ranked. CWSGuy406
My faith in this organization has bottomed out. f*** this group heading our beloved -- your going to give $19 f***ing million to Scott Linebrink? Gosh damnit.

Heads22
QUOTE(soxfaninpa @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) So I wonder who goes on the forty man roster now... Andy Gonzalez maybe probably hopefully dear god get him out of here. Is it worth 19 million and a 2nd round pick to get him off the 40 man? Maybe. Balta1701
So, is there any way Linebrink can be thought of as a "Big fish"?

G&T
Reported on the Score. They say up to 4 years. I think the numbers might be suspect right now, but we will see.
29andPoplar
Well it doesn't look like the White Sox are afraid to spend money to fix problems. I know there will be people on this site who will shoot this signing to pieces. This guy historically has taken the ball though. It's an improvement and very frankly the money is not much of a concern to me, they have it and will spend it.

fathom
I don't mind the deal....it's less than I thought he'd get. I'd rather they overpay for a reliever than have to trade for one.
Sox It To Em
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) If the move doesn't hinder us getting the "big fish" I don't have a problem with it. Same here. I like this move.

At first I was a bit dissapointed with the Garland trade, but once I thought about it Cabrera seems like he will feel a need pretty nicely. Linebrink at the very least has shown some consistency in his numbers from year to year. If we can add a CF and the back end of the rotation can holld up, I'm encouraged about next year. Dick Allen
Justin Speier last year would have made more sense. There's the $3 million savings + the $1.5 million the Angels kicked in for 2008. So the trade is Cabrera and Linebrink for Garland.

More bullpen, all purpose guy, two OF's, and a minor move or two.
scenario
I like it. 4 years - $19M is not out of line for a quality set-up guy. I'm impressed with the aggressiveness KW is showing so far.
CWSGuy406
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 03:32 AM) Why? Linebrink's peripherals are terrible. K/BB ratio was just at 2-to-1 last year. His homerun rate isn't anything special. It's too much money for a not-great reliever. There's lots of reasons not to like this deal.
