Rex Hudler
To save the provider debate, for the purpose of this thread we are choosing Sprint phones only. There is a reason, but it is too boring to share, but it is legit. Below are five models I am looking at. Here is some basic info. -- I currently have a basic, durable Nextel. -- I no longer have a need for Nextel, so that is not a factor in the phone. -- Obviously, I am used to using the phone for a phone and that is it -- I realize I am for the most part giving up the durability I am used to, but I'm okay with that -- In order, my priorities are: phone usage, abasic web browsingbility to check email, camera and limited text messaging -- Assume at this point, money is not a deciding factor -- I could see myself utilizing features of a PDA, but am not familiar enough to know that I would for sure Phone Comparison The phones are compared above..... In no particular order. 1. Palm Treo 755p 2. HTC Mogul 3. Blackberry Pearl 8130 4. Motorola MOTO Q 9c 5. Sanyo Katana DLX (champagne or silver, NOT pink) Edited November 26, 2007 by Rex Hudler
RockRaines
Predictive typing in blackberrys sucks. Get a full keyboard whatever direction you go. I have the 8703 bb, I like it very much. Its basic, but I am upgrading to the curve because of added features. No phone is as good with emailing as a blackberry.

RockRaines
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) What is the difference between a "smart phone" and a PDA? Smart phones are phones with PDA functionality. PDA is an old legacy name for the palm pilot-type devices.
Texsox
Rex, you will find fans of each model you listed. Because using them for a phone is your first priority, see how they feel held to your ear. I made the mistake of buying an early "smart phone" and hated the too wide feel of the device when talking on the phone. I felt like I was holding a book to my mouth. I was using a Palm Pilot and was going to merge into one device. I'm back to two devices and am waiting for a form factor that I like. I have looked at each one and wanted to see how they felt in my hand, but I didn't think about actually simulating talking on it. I can see where that would make a difference. Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

Any other advice is greatly appreciated. I just got a new job and they made me buy a new blackberry (damn!!!) and I was assigned the blackberry curve. Pretty slick bb device. Best one yet. Im not used to the track ball yet, but its not too bad. Ive had the treos as well, both windows and Palm, they took forever to do anything and froze ALL the time. Rex Hudler
Finally pulled the trigger and got Nextel/Sprint to get their shtuff together... I decided to go with the Palm Treo 755p. I wasn't really sure which phone to go with and narrowed my wishlist to the Treo, the Blackberry Pearl and the HTC Mogul. Bottom line is I didn't really care as long as I got it free. Long story short, I told them I was tired of Nextel's crappy coverage and I was changing providers. I told them I would switch to Sprint for the right deal. The deal was... Sprint Power Plan - 450 minutes for $39.95 I get to keep my 500 free bonus minutes I have had the last 7 years with Nextel I'd agree to add Sprint Power vision unlimited for $15 and limited text messaging (300 messages) for $5 a free phone 30 days to try it out without commiting to anything I actually shot high with the phones I was asking for, hoping they would give me a Palm Centro or something else decent. They asked for $75 for the Treo and I told them no, the deal was free phone. Before I even said that I would consider a different phone, the lady said "okay, I can do it for free". I was pretty happy. They didn't balk at the 500 bonus minutes either. Edited December 17, 2007 by Rex Hudler

But I wasn't going to turn down the free Treo
Soxbadger
I got a Blackjack the other day. Its my first smart phone, so far I like it. Only reason I got one was my Razr died.
