Amen brother, amen. I love Whitlock. I have since before he was dropped from ESPN because he was a black man that was "real" and didn't play into the ridiculous stereotypes ala Steven A Smith and Stuart Scott. I read him regularly, if you don't you owe it to yourself to start.

What makes Whitlock "real"?

He doesn't view race as an excuse for why bad things happen to people. I get the impression that he doesn't like when people use race as a crutch either. To me that's being "real." He's got the Bill Cosby mentality which I totally agree with.

You're damn straight I blame hip hop for playing a role in the genocide of American black men. When your leading causes of death and dysfunction are murder, ignorance and incarceration, there's no reason to give a free pass to a culture that celebrates murder, ignorance and incarceration.

But we have to teach our kids about this stuff, it would be censorship and book burning like ignorance not to.

It's an impossible balance. We tell people to never forget where they came from. Stay grounded. We also tell them to ditch their hometown and childhood friends. Who are you going to trust, your new "friends" who are hangin with you because of your new celebrity and cash, or the guys who hung out with you when you were a nobody? Jeez that is tough. And what prepares these kids for becoming instant millionaires? The league has a program put together by old white guys, I'm certain that's relevant. Clearly they need to be held responsible a lot earlier in their lives, but that is not the whole answer.

Here is why I think you are wrong.

From the NFL Rookie Symposium not much old white guys but they are probably ttere to help with the finance side

"Off-field conduct is always discussed at length during the symposium. But it will certainly be stressed even more this year, with new Commissioner Roger Goodell's crackdown on such issues.

League spokesman Dan Masonson said Goodell will speak to the rookies and likely take some questions Monday morning.

Goodell, Reggie Bush and Will Smith are three of several players, coaches and executives who will speak at this year's symposium, which begins today in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Professionals in specialized fields outside of football also speak at the symposium.

Among other scheduled speakers are Romeo Crennel, Ozzie Newsome, Troy Vincent, Vince Young, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, DeAngelo Hall, Chris Draft, Eddie Kennison, Jerod Cherry, Jeff Saturday and Dhani Jones."

You remember your roots to keep you grounded, use the lessons learned to not make the same mistakes twice and don't forget where you came from as that is what helps get you and make you what you are. Sean Taylor could have done some good by coming cleaning and giving back in a different community. He did not have to stay in South Florida.

I know this is easier said then done but it is a real option.

Seriously? He's always using race in one way or another for his articles.

Have you not read any of his articles? In fact he blames hip-hop for the mentality that most young black men have today. Myself being a young black man that listens to mainly hip-hop, i've never picked up a gun in my life, nor have I ever thought about killing someone. Everything he writes about something happening to an african-american is mainly due to hip-hop, or some other aspect of society which has "doomed" the guy. I still don't see how this makes him "real"

Maybe he's too real for someone like you to understand.

Just kidding! Please don't shoot me!

An attorney and family friend for Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor said three people have been detained in the Fort Myers area for questioning in connection with his death.

Richard Sharpstein confirmed Friday that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Miami-Dade police detained two teenagers and a third person, Local 10's Rad Berky reported.

The Miami Herald reported that investigators believe the three learned of Taylor's house through someone who unwittingly set up the burglary by bragging about his wealth. The newspaper reported their ages as being 17, 19 and 26.

Investigators removed a large amount of physical evidence from Taylor's Palmetto Bay home after he was shot early Monday morning. Berky has learned that evidence can place the two or three people in the house.

It's not at all tragic for those 4 people if they are the ones who killed a man.

4 people didn't pull the trigger. What I'm saying is at least 5 lives will be wasted because of those kids deciding to break into his house and one of them shooting and killing Sean Taylor.

4 people in custudy born in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990. They're all just kids, how tragic at least 5 lives including Sean Taylor's are ruined.

Not really, more like at least 4 horrible human beings are off the street at a young age before they can do further damage. The more people like these 4 off the streets, the better place they are. Not like anything will ever really get fixed though, Jesse and Al are too worried about getting the white people for their word crimes to pay attention to real issues.

From rotoworld:

The Redskins opened with only ten men on defense Sunday in honor of Sean Taylor.

The Redskins didn't start with a free safety and Fred Jackson ran for 22 yards on the play. He was tackled by 'Skins strong safety LaRon Landry.

As well as Washington's dealt with the situation overall, this strikes me as a very dumb tribute.

I think that means the Bears have been tributing Sean Taylor all year, because since the acquisition of Archuletta they've only had 10 men on the field all season.

Yes it does. Put twelve guys out there and take the penalty because it will take two to replace him.

Isn't that what wakes and funerals are for?

What?

Is that supposed to be a joke?

Edit:[/i] Assuming it's not, which I think is a little more reasonable -- yes, funerals are for paying tribute but you also do it at your work. You wear your pins, your badges, your stickers; you play their favorite song, you honor something dear to them, you play without a safety for the first play just to show that he's gone and won't be replaced in anyone's heart or system anytime soon.

Amazing Joe Gibbs didn't know about the 10 men on defense thing.

More amazing is that he didn't know you can't call back to back timeouts, and might have lost his team the game turning a 51 yard FG into a 36 yarder. He should be fired after this season, it amazes me that he was once an awesome coach, because he's been clueless since he came back.
