rcpweiner
Interesting news from Rotoworld: Agent Craig Landis said he would contact White Sox GM Ken Williams on behalf of free agent Aaron Rowand. Rowand's market simply hasn't been as strong as expected. While a lot of teams like him, they all seem to be afraid that someone with such an all-out style of play is a poor bet to hold up for another five or six years. Rowand will still get his $10 million-$12 million per year, but it might not be for as many seasons as he'd like. $10-12 million for 4 years seems like a nice deal to me. At that level (4 years at $10-$12 per), he starts to look worth it.
spiderman
There's been a lot of talk that Rowand wants 5 years, and nobody is willing to go beyond 3 years.
klaus kinski
Time to get that best offer out there-quit jerking around before we lose the second best option at CF We then will have accomplished getting the outfield fixed

NCsoxfan
I know this is totally below market, but Rowand still seems like he is "worth" maybe a 3 year 25 mil contract... In the next few years I see him being a .280 hitter, 20ish HR's and 75 RBI's, with his defense slowly declining Just think there is NO way he's worth 10mil a year

In all probabiltiy, last year was a career year. I think your offer would be great for the White Sox, but I think he'd get around $12 million somewhere else. NCsoxfan
^Agree He's probably not going to hit 300 and probably wont hit 30 hrs. Putting aside all the hogwash about chemistry/hustle/grinder, how much is a 30 year old CF worth that is an above average defender and above average hitter with average speed? klaus kinski
So you'd rather have Jerry Owens who'd NEVER hit 20 HR or Drive in 85 runs and may never hit 280? Pay up. Why are You are being Frugal for a team and sport that has $ coming at them from TV, Sponsors, and who knows what. Everything is sponsored at the games. We dont even get replays anymore unless they are paid for. GEESH!!!!!!!! Either you want to win or not

NCsoxfan
No, I'd rather spend more money and get Andruw or spend the money at a different position...

Torii Hunter's 3 year averages make him a .280 hitter that smacks 27 HRs a year and he'll be getting $18M a year.
The Ginger Kid
The LA Times is reporting this morning that Jones is looking for a deal that exceeds Hunter's and that Rowand isn't far behind that.

Its not as if they are without an owner - the Tribune Company still owns them. And since they are spending what is basically someone else's money, and making the team look higher profile doing it, its not surprise they are spending like crazy. Its just like when Bill Veeck actually signed some free agents when he thought he had the team sold to DeBartolo. Ron LeFlore was one, I think Jim Essian was another, but LeFlore was the big one then.

There was a report out that some team "not believed to be the White Sox" offered Rowand a 5 year deal. Since there were no further specifics, my personal opinion is that Camp Rowand put it out there.
