Report: Bears sign Briggs to long-term deal

Recommended Posts

I looking around rotoworld and this was on the NFL portion.

Profootballtalk.com reports LB Lance Briggs and the Bears have come to terms on a long-term contract extension.

Briggs, who is currently playing under the one-year franchise tender, has played hurt all season but still performed at a high level. Terms of the deal aren't yet available.

Very Interesting.

NO DEAL FOR BRIGGS by Michael David Smith

We're now hearing that the Bears and linebacker Lance Briggs have not come to an agreement on a long-term contract extension.

We had previously heard from a league source that a deal was in place to keep the linebacker in Chicago. But now we're told that the deal isn't done.

In one of his few public comments about his contract status, Briggs told Fred Mitchell of the Chicago Tribune that he wants to reach a long-term deal to stay with the team, and that if he gets an offer he thinks is fair, "I will retire a Bear. A happy Bear."

But no such deal has been reached yet.

Actually he is not able to sign a contract till like March due to being franchised (at least i think that is how it works). Although the Bears may be able to sign him but than lose the right to the franchise tag for a couple of years (I forget, but there is some sort of penalty).

Rosenhaus has been seen at Halas hall a bit more lately and that could very well be due to Briggs and the Bears. I know Briggs recently said as long as the Bears offer him a fair deal he will retire a Bear.

Briggs and/or Tommie Harris. With Urlacher's arthritic back, it's imperative to get Briggs signed.
