Fukudome to the Cubs

Also there are still some good options for CF out there in a trade.

Nate McLouth for one (.822 OPS last season with around 22 SB's). Luke Scott's another (although I don't know if he can handle CF).

So we still do have some more options.

4 years I could maybe live with, but that 5th year option would have to be a team option, and not a player option.

I imagine Rowand's probably after $55-$60M over 4 years right now.

If they can get Rowand for, say, $54 over 4 years plus some sort of team option, I'd be pretty happy. When looking at it in context with the Hunter contract, I'd say that would be a steal.

But that would still leave the team improved over 2007, but probably not improved enough. More is needed.

Nice try, but I was on here when the Cabrera rumors hit stating that we should trade every member of our organization in order to get him.

Maybe you were, but I am sure once you saw that one man doesn't and wouldn't win us the division, things would be a different story. The last time I checked the Best player in basebal has played 3rd base for the Yankees the last few years and they have won how many World Series Championships? We have won 1. So just because you have all the big name players, don't mean nothing. the game is played on the field, not by who spends the most or signs the biggest free agents.

I like McLouth, but we better get a platoon partner for him then in CF.

There will be trades. 2 SS and 2 thirdbaseman. I just hope KW is bluffing about the pitching being fine as is. What did Levine say the Sox offered Rowand 4/55? That's a lot of cash for a guy who really has had only 2 better than average seasons.

Rosenthal said Sox are still keying on Rowand, and might offer 4 years with an option.

Rosenthal say the Giants and White Sox are among the teams competing for free agent Aaron Rowand.

Is this a bidding war we can win, especially with SF possibly willing to go 5 years ?

No, it's more because I would want a future HOF on the Sox likely locked up for the next 8 years or so. He'd hit 50 homers a year at the Cell. Instead, we have to face him 6 series a season on a team with other young superstars.

Rosenthal said it best...if Rowand wants to go to a team for 5 years that won't win, then that's his choice (and a bad one).

Who do you and Fathom suggest they get to play center?? I am just curious. If KW would have signed Hunter to a 5/95 mil contract you guys would have b****ed about that. Saying he overpaid. If we would have given up the farm for Cabrera, I am sure you guys would have said we mortgaged the future for one guy. It's like KW can't win no matter what he does with you guys. I wouldn't mind having Rowand back. It will solidify centerfield for the next 5 years, and I believe last year was a breakout year for him, and he will continue to put up similar numbers.

I would like them to rebuild. Trade Konerko, Dye, Buerhle, Contreras, Vazquez, Cabrera. Play for 3 years from now. It worked for Larry Himes in 1987. This was a horrible team last year. I can live with Owens in CF if they are rebuilding. If they are trying to win, they are kidding themselves if he's there everyday.

Chris Burke sounds pretty decent to me.

I'd trade a fringe reliever for Burke (Ed Wade just loves his relievers, and with Matsui and Bourn there, Burke is basically useless to Houston), and maybe one of your SP prospect's such as Broadway and a reliever for McLouth.

Then sign another reliever to replace the one you've traded, preferably from Japan (if there are any left).

If you can sign Rowand, then yeah you still need to trade Crede and probably Uribe. IMO, you trade for one of only two things - an SP to bolster the starting staff (as you allude to), or for some good prospects if they can be had.

Burke just sucks....he would get dominated having to face Johan, Liriano, C.C. on a weekly basis. The Pirates will want more for McLouth.

How many has Fukudome had?

How many did Ichiro have when he came over? Scouting is pretty good with these guys coming over. Kaz Matsui was pretty much a bust, but he's still getting some nice money. Ichiro was everything advertised, as was Hideki Matsui and Iguchi. I think Fukudome probably will play close to where he is projected.

I think they will trade for Pierre. They aren't going to sign Rowand I think -- he's just to pricey for the Sox. Gio for Pierre+some money??

Haha, KW should be fired on the spot then. He should make the Dodgers take Contreras for Pierre.

Unless Williams signs Rowand, he'll be ridiculed beyond belief for his inability to sign notable free agents. The options are dwindling.

And no, overpaying for Rowand won't be the difference in our ballclub reaching the playoffs next season. Neither will this hold true for any deal involving a capable CF.

The problem here is Williams -- he forced himself into this position talking about "Plan 1A, 2A..." and landing a "big fish." In addition to exchanging Garland for a legitimate trading chip and thereafter signing Linebrick. When you say the words he has said, and follow it up with the aforementioned moves, missing out on free agents doesn't make you look anything but pathetic. I don't care -- hell, I'd rather have Owens than paying someone 10 times his salary -- but I'm not the casual fan reading the paper day after day and wondering what's going on.

Wow. So you are giving up on the season before one pitch is even thrown? Wow. Let the first few months play out and see what happens. Why give up in the offseason, especially after the year most of our players just had. Their value isn't exactly high right now. Let's see how the first couple months play out, and see what happens.
