RME JICO
Hiroki Kuroda reportedly informed the Hiroshima Carp on Tuesday night that he planned to sign with the Dodgers. He's expected to leave for the U.S. as soon as Wednesday to take his physical and sign the contract, which is probably worth about $30 million for three years. At that price, he's no worse of a gamble than Carlos Silva or Kyle Lohse. Still, he's not a great bet to be more than a fourth starter and he could always turn out to be a Kaz Ishii or maybe even a Kei Igawa. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...506&id=4809
Balta1701
The amount of money being thrown at these Japanese players in the last 2 years, considering their performance, is absolutely extraordinary.
iamshack
If this is accurate, it looks like the Bedard to the Dodgers deal is off. Which hopefully does not mean he goes to the Indians...
sircaffey
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) If this is accurate, it looks like the Bedard to the Dodgers deal is off. Which hopefully does not mean he goes to the Indians... Please send Bedard to Cleveland. Send Haren too. Collect all the talent from the NL as well. Whatever takes this organization to understand they have no chance at competing I welcome.
Punch and Judy Garland
Yeah I think these Japanese guys are bargains as long as there is no posting fee. You don't have to develop them at all and they are relatively lower risked. Of course you never get them at pre-arb cheap prices but it certainly beats the dreck Scott Boras is trying to sell this winter
DBAHO
Well this means that the Mariners still need a SP for the back of their rotation. They could just go out and sign Carlos Silva to fill that need, but maybe the Sox should be offering Contreras to them and see if they bite? EDIT: And the D-Backs as well. G&T
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) The amount of money being thrown at these Japanese players in the last 2 years, considering their performance, is absolutely extraordinary. Considering what else is out there I'm not surprised. The Japanese players could also add a little bit of extra revenue as well. Probably more worth it financially than getting Silva. Well, it really means is that the M's are now heavily involved in Bedard as well, offering a package of Adam Jones and Brandon Morrow. And the DBacks are chasing Dan Haren.
