Balta1701
Hmm, not sure what to make of this deal. Adding a starter but dropping that key part of their bullpen. Somehow I'm not sure how this makes sense for either team. Especially when you factor in the Lidge deal for the Stros.

I think the Dbacks are a better time now than they were heading into the day. The upgrade from Livan to Haren is substantial, while the downgrade from Valverde to Pena as closer with Qualls in the bullpen isn't that bad. And if, by chance, they keep RJ healthy enough so he can pitch game three? The Cubs best get Brian Roberts AND a new SS, because even that might not be enough against that D'Back staff. Well, they're certainly better than they were heading into the day at the major league level, but I'm not sure that comes from this trade at all. Was Valverde nearing FA? As long as Dbacks have Brandon Lyon, I'm confident!

Was Valverde nearing FA? He's heading into his second year of arbitration. He made $2M last year so he is looking at a substantial pay raise. Harry Chappas
I personally think that the Astros are a-lot better (I like Tejada) and the NL West could be the toughest division in baseball if the Padres and Giants play to their potential. I think the GM's in the NL are finally realizing it is not that hard to win that league. I personally think if the Brewers improve and the Reds take a run at Bedard, the cubs could be real trouble. If Suppan, Sheets and Capuano stay healthy and pitch to their potential and the pen lives up to their salaries the cub could be the about as good as the Sox in their respective league. The cubs were farily healthy last year and could start to age from Lilly, Ramirez, Lee and Soriano.
