For those of you keeping score at home Stoney is 6 years younger than Hawk.

Yes they are about the same age. One however is a hell of a lot more senile than the other. I cannot remember Stoney screaming at the top of his lungs when a fly ball makes it past the SS. You can put it on the .....oh daggumit no. Stoney will also bring a sense of objectivity. I don't think we will hear Stoney every say he thinks that position by position that his players are better than the rest of baseball. I don't think that Stoney will automatically blame the umps, the wind, global warming or another other non-baseball reason for the team sucking or a player not executing.

Hawk is quickly becoming Santo on the southside. I have liked Hawk, but he has gotten worse over the years and has become weirder and more homerish if that was possible.

I would trade the entire broadcast team for Stoney, and could hire anyone to sit with him and it would be better than the product we have today.

Throw in Gilbert Gottfried for all I care. Just give me Stoney!

The bold part I agree with.

As for the rest, I really don't think Hawk would act that way with a guy in the booth that he respects and will tell him when he's wrong. BTW, that's exactly what Stone did when he was on with Hawk.

I used to think DJ was getting better, but I don't know anymore. I don't think he brings anything interesting to the broadcast to actually tell fans something about the game.

I think both Hawk and DJ are sounding worse because the team is so crappy. It's hard to be excited to talk about a bad team for 3 hours straight. We were spoiled by our magical season in 2005. It probably wouldn't have mattered who was in the booth that year and we would have liked them. Contrast that to today and we as fans are more annoyed as we watch this team and then become more critical of the play by play.

I haven't heard Singleton that much but DJ is awesome. He's not the brightest baseball person in the world but he's improved a ton and he's just entertaining to listen to, imo. Hawk has been the problem for years now, he's the one who refuses to hold actual conversations and he's the one who produces the dead air.

I love Hawk because of his passion for the Sox but as an announcer he's pretty brutal at the moment.

Hawk has called more calls BS in the past 2 years than he did in his previous 10 or so. I remember being shocked and fired up when I heard him say it the first time (Garland hit Mientkiewicz and got thrown out of the game); now when he says it, I shrug it off as if it's normal routine.

Hawk is over the hill. I'm happy he's been the play by play guy for however many years he has been, I've loved him, and I'm happy he got to see a World Series, but he's pretty terrible nowadays.

Maybe Hawk can retire after this year, and we can move Stoney into the TV booth.

Stoney isn't a play-by-play guy, so I'm not sure what that would accomplish.

The few days that Hawk and Stoney worked together this past season sounded like a promising tandem.

So you've actually heard DJ without Hawk? Because I heard him do a national game last year with someone else, and I have to say, I thought he sounded pretty good. I think Hawk is what destroys DJ, really. Those two just have zero chemistry of any kind.

+1

I probably saw the same game you did and I couldn't stand him. I have yet to hear DJ have chemistry with anyone. To each their own I guess. We share different opinions. I really can't stand him at all. I tend to tune him out.

You are correct. If you remember the Drysdale days you will recall that Hawk and Drysdale were a great team and it seemed like they respected each other a bunch.

It's probably the worst day of the week for me to listen to games on the radio, but I'll take it as this is an upgrade for at least 13 games.

How many years does Singleton have left on his contract ? Just the 1 year renewal ? If it's only the one year, I wonder if this opening could allow Stone to eventually take his job....I'd really like him on TV though, but that radio booth is so bad, I'll take it.

Really? I thought the both were awful. Blackjack is a terrible announcer as is DJ. I don't know how you guys can like listening to that.

Blackjack's the best Sox announcer I've heard in a very long time.

Yeah, it's going to be a really hard season to deal with. Lots of long, awkward silences.
