zimne piwo
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) The cubs always filling their stadium is a myth. Its more of a recent development. Wrigleyville was scum for many decades. Exactly... as recently as 1983 the upper deck at Wrigley Field was frequently closed off due to the paltry crowds there. EvilMonkey
I have several friends from college that reside int he Boston area. They HATE the Yankmees. However the hate level has gone down sine they broke their 'curse', but not much.
Felix
http://www.orioleshangout.com/article.asp?ID=1297 Reports: Roberts Traded to Cubs By: Tony Pente 1/9/2008 Orioleshangout.com has learned through several sources that the trade of All-Star second baseman Brian Roberts to the Cubs has been finalized. The early reports indicate that Orioles will get back 22-year old right-hander pitching prospect Sean Gallagher, 25-year old left-handed starting pitcher Sean Marshall, and 24-year old shortstop Ronny Cedeno. More soon....
fathom
Ugh....great trade for the Cubs. Piniella had given up on Cedeno and Marshall, and Gallagher is nothing special. That lineup is nasty.

The Critic
Trading Marshall pretty much locks either Dempster or Marquis into a rotation spot, doesn't it? THAT ain't good for them. Plus, Soriano seems to have a mental problem about batting anywhere but leadoff, so how would he adjust to that?

Harry Chappas
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) Trading Marshall pretty much locks either Dempster or Marquis into a rotation spot, doesn't it? THAT ain't good for them. Plus, Soriano seems to have a mental problem about batting anywhere but leadoff, so how would he adjust to that? Doesn't trading Marshall force Marquis AND Dempster into the rotation and deplete their farm system. Who am I missing? Zambrano-Lilly-Hill...... That offense will be good but the rotation could be really bad. The sad thing is that Marshall and Gallagher are not worth Gio Gonzalez alone and Cedano is nothing. Balta1701
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) The sad thing is that Marshall and Gallagher are not worth Gio Gonzalez alone and Cedano is nothing. Unless the Mitchell report really killed Roberts's trade value, it's hard to believe that there's no team out there that would be willing to beat that price for Roberts. The Orioles must really like a couple of those guys to the point of thinking they're worth more than we do.
EvilJester99
Kenny should be doing his damnest to out do this and get Roberts for the Sox. This guy would fit perfectly here. Wonder if McFailure isn't trying to help his old squad out a little though.

Piniella had given up on Cedeno and Marshall, and Gallagher is nothing special. That lineup is nasty. I agree. The Cubs gave up virtually nothing here. Cedeno might become a useful player, but that's a weak haul, IMO.
WHITESOXRANDY
Cedeno ? He's clearly the worst of the group. Marshall could be very good and Gallagher is a decent prospect. Cedeno wil be nothing.

EvilJester99
This sounds a little more like it... Brian Roberts Cubs Rumors UPDATE, 1-9-08 at 6:06pm: WGN Radio's Dave Kaplan checked in on this situation on his blog. He has "great sources" saying the price for Roberts is much higher than was previously reported. The Orioles want Rich Hill, Felix Pie, or Tyler Colvin. Hill is known to be off-limits. santo=dorf
A package of Cedeno, Gallagher, and Marshall is about equivalent to a package of Uribe, cash, Haeger and Floyd. Pie put up worse numbers than Anderson, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved.
